Athens, Greece Shore Excursion in Athens, Greece

The adventure begins via coach where you’ll pass by the Olympic Stadium, the former Royal Palace, Constitution Square and the Monument to the Unknown Soldier.

Your first stop, the Acropolis, is a symbol of the glory of ancient Greece. Here, you’ll experience the same awe and delight that visitors have for centuries while climbing the smooth marble steps to the Propylaea. You’ll also see the Temple of Athena Nike (Wingless Victory), and the Erectheum, with its classical Porch of Maidens, the Caryatids.

Stand in amazement of what many say is the most perfect example of classical architecture in the world—the Parthenon. Designed as a shrine to Athena and at one time housing a massive gold and ivory statue of the warrior goddess, this is where history was made.

Gazing down, you’ll view the two ancient theaters that rest in its shadow. Glance one way to see The Greek theater of Dionysus, where the works of Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides and Aristophanes were first presented. Look the other way and there lies the theater of Herod Atticus, a grand Roman theater restored and still used today for concerts and classical plays during the summer Athens Festival.

Onward to the Historical Center of Athens for a guided walking tour and free time for lunch and shopping in Plaka.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 2 hours of walking and/or standing, plus any additional walking at the guests' discretion during free time. There’s a considerable amount of steps to negotiate at the Acropolis (approximately 80); therefore, this tour is not considered suitable for wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Order of sights visited may vary. The actual tour duration may vary due to traffic conditions.
