Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik

Known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” Dubrovnik was founded in the 7th century by a group of refugees from Epidaurum (today’s Cavtat). It is known worldwide for its unique marble-paved squares, tall houses, steep-cobbled streets and fountains. The city walls, once used to as protection against its enemies, now keep motorists at bay in this picturesque town. UNESCO named the Old City a World Heritage Site, and Dubrovnik’s beautiful historic sites have been restored.

The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 180 days before the cruise begins.

Light Activity Regent Choice

Leaving the ship you will take a drive by coach where the panoramic views of Dubrovnik and its Riviera can be enjoyed.

You will then continue to the picturesque seaside resort town of Cavtat, which was the ancient Roman city of Epidaurus. Over the years Cavtat has been a favorite destination for sailors and yacht enthusiasts. In fact, Edward VIII and Wallace Simpson came here during their honeymoon. You will have an opportunity for a pleasant walk along the beautiful seafront promenade or sip coffee in one of many café clubs located along the coast. Depart Cavtat by motorboat, and enjoy your time sailing along the eastern coast of the Dubrovnik Riviera.

Upon arrival at the old town harbor your exploration of Dubrovnik begins. Along the way you will visit among other places, the Rector's Palace (15th century) which used to be the seat of the Government and Rector in the once independent Republic of Dubrovnik (abolished by Napoleon in 1808). Today it gives us a taste of how the ruling class and the aristocracy used to live. Continue with a visit to the Maritime Museum, located in St. John's Castle which has been rebuilt after an earthquake in 1979. The permanent display was opened in 1986. It consists of 4,000 exhibits owned by the museum, which illustrates the naval history of Dubrovnik and the surrounding region. Among the exhibits are the ship models dating back to the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries as well as flags, cannons and other weapons, figureheads, nautical instruments, log books and various documents. The museum holds a valuable library containing many rare books and the important archival material.

After this guided tour you will have some free time before returning by coach back to the ship.

Please note: Guests are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes for this tour which involves moderate walking, including 45 steps to climb in the Old Town of Dubrovnik.
