Boarding your coach, you will leave the small fishing village of Katakolon behind as you travel some 25 miles east to the mystical site of ancient Olympia. Situated amid the lush green countryside, for harmony of body and soul and the pursuit of physical excellence, the ancient Greeks couldn't have chosen a more suitable site.
As you step back 2,000 years into the past, imagine the area as it was during the height of its glory, crowded with athletes, orators, merchants and philosophers, all surrounding the impressive Temple of Zeus with its forty foot high chryselephantine statue of the god. It's easy to see why the temple is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The commentary provided by your expert guide will help paint a vivid picture of the former magnificence of the temples, the treasuries, the porticoes and statues of this amazing ancient city.
Leaving Olympia, your coach will return you to Katakolon, where you will be treated to typical Greek snacks and local wine at a seafront restaurant. For your enjoyment, a folkloric dance show will take place under the sounds of the famous Zorba music and you will all be invited to join in for some syrtaki dance lessons!
Following a most entertaining afternoon, your tour will conclude back at the pier.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 1 1/2 hours of walking and/or standing - at times on uneven ground and may not be suitable for those with mobility concerns. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
