There’s a little bit of Carnival celebrated here everyday. From its famous beaches to its iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer, Rio radiates an air of exuberance that is hard to find anywhere else. Make the scene on trendy Ipanema or take a cable car to the summit of Sugar Loaf Mountain and enjoy the amazing views. Sway your hips to the rhythm at a samba show or enjoy the tranquility of king Dom João VI’s Botanical Gardens and verdant Tijuca Forest.

A scenic drive takes you through downtown to the Cosme Velho district. Here you will board the cog railway that takes you up to Corcovado. Emperor Dom Pedro II opened the railway in October 1884. At that time it was operated with steam engines; they were replaced with electric trains in 1910. The 2.5 mile railway itself offers fine views. As you reach the upper terminus there are fantastic views in clear weather. To reach the top of the 120-foot-high statue, you will take an elevator and an escalator. Continue to Tijuca Forest which comprises an area of 47 square miles. This dense tropical forest was largely cut down in the 19th century to accommodate coffee plantations. A project of reforestation was initiated in the late 1800s with the planting of more than 100,000 trees. Today the park is a favorite spot to get away from the city's hustle and bustle.
