Island Panorama
Duration: 4 hours
Tour Code: lpa-001
Concentrating on the picturesque northern region of Grand Canary, this excursion showcases the island's natural beauty, affluent suburbs and traditional towns.
Depart from the pier and begin driving south toward the exclusive residential area of Tafira, a suburb of Las Palmas. Along the way, you'll see a number of magnificent estates with spacious verandas and multi-tiered gardens that flourish in the mild climate. Another spectacular view awaits you during a photo stop at the rim of nearby Bandama Crater, an ancient caldera layered with volcanic ash of different hues and dotted with indigenous vegetation.
Ascending even higher and deeper into Grand Canary's interior, you'll arrive in the village of Teror. Built on a plateau almost 1,900 feet above sea level, Teror is known for its colonial architecture, which lends the neat, gently sloping avenues an irrepressible charm. Still, the village's dominant feature is its 18th-century Our Lady of the Pines basilica, a pilgrimage site that according to legend was built after shepherds saw the Virgin Mary atop a nearby pine tree.
Next, you'll visit Arucas, an agricultural center that's become the island's third largest city. Enjoy an outside view of its iconic Cathedral, which boasts the island's highest tower. The tower took six decades to build, using dark lava stone which stands in stark contrast to the surrounding white houses. Just outside of town, you'll stop at the Altavista lookout to take in the panoramic views. Looking north, you'll see Las Palmas in the distance, where you'll soon arrive back at the pier.
