Watch master glassblowers in Biot create their signature works of art and then explore the Old Town of Antibes, which lies in easy walking distance of your ship.

Depart from the pier for a short drive inland to Biot, an artistic village best known for its glassworks. In particular, glass created in Biot is recognized for its signature small bubbles. The first glassblowers settled here in the 18th century because the soil contains sand that is ideal for making glass. At that time, they primarily made functional glassware such as oil lamps, jars and perfume bottles.

Today, Biot “bubble” glassware is functional and beautiful, as you will discover by watching master glassblowers create their works of art in a small factory founded more than 50 years ago. You will see them using time-honored techniques to blow, sculpt and shape the molten glass into exquisite pieces. The bubbles are formed when gas gets trapped in the molten glass or through certain chemical processes.

Following your demonstration and time for shopping in the factory’s boutique, you will return to Antibes for a leisurely walking tour. Around the harbor, you will most likely see several palatial mega-yachts, as Antibes is one of the few harbors in the vicinity that can accommodate them. Old Town, with its bustling Provençal market, is another spot well worth your attention, either on the tour or afterwards on your own. You’re free to stay as long as you like, or return to the pier with the guide.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 2 1/2 hours of moderate walking/standing. There are some steps, cobblestone surfaces and inclines to negotiate. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. Weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; a bottle of water from the ship; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The tour sequence may vary.
