Unearth the Roman Empire's connection to ancient Egypt during this journey through Alexandria's catacombs, Pompey's Pillar and the Roman Theater.

Depart the Port of Alexandria for the drive to the Catacombs of Kom El Shuquafa. Discovered in 1900, the catacombs represent the largest Roman cemetery in Alexandria, and include the remains of more than 300 dead. Comprised of three levels cut 90 feet deep into existing rock, the catacombs are accessed by a series of descending steps.

Next, you will proceed for a visit to Pompey's Pillar, an 82-foot red Aswan granite column with a circumference of 29 feet. Pompey's Pillar was constructed in honor of Emperor Diocletain.

Your tour will conclude with a visit to the Roman Theater. Unearthed during excavations in 1960, this well-preserved Roman Theater features galleries, sections of mosaic flooring and marble seating for up to 800 spectators.

Please note: Guests are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes for this tour, which involves moderate walking over many uneven surfaces, and approximately 100 steps to climb inside the Catacombs. Guests should expect to walk and stand for approximately 15 minutes at each of the three sights. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility or guests who utilize a wheelchair.
