The Swedish heritage of St. Barts is felt in the capital of Gustavia. The first colonists were the French, who arrived in 1645, but later sold the land to the Knights of Malta. France bought the island back from Sweden in 1878, and today it is considered part of the Dependency of Guadeloupe, an Overseas Department of France. St. Barts has long been considered a playground of the rich and famous and is known for its beaches, gourmet dining and designer shopping.

Explore St. Barts at your own pace during a rent-a-car tour of this beautiful island paradise.

Depart the pier with your car rental representative for the brief transfer to the airport. Upon arrival, you will complete your registration formalities and receive driving instructions, then pick up your rental car and commence your tour. Along the way, you can explore the beautiful beaches and do some shopping in Gustavia, St. Jean or at the stylish La Villa Créole. If you get hungry, you may stop in at a restaurant offering fine French Caribbean cuisine accompanied by fresh baguettes.

Following your tour, you will return your car to the car-rental parking lot at the airport and be transferred back to the pier.

Please note: Extra care is required while driving in St. Barts; the roads are narrow and winding, the terrain is hilly and there are many steep inclines. It is illegal to sound your horn in St. Barts, except in the event of an emergency. Most cars have automatic transmissions, and air-conditioning is available in European-style cars. Models of cars available include the Samurai, Vitara, Feroza, Terio and Jimny. The price of a car rental is per-car. All cars must be returned to the rental agency no later than 6:00 p.m., even if the ship stays later in port. Each driver must present a driver's license and a credit card when registering for their car; a credit card imprint for the deductible will be held by the agency, and the driver must sign a contract and control sheet prior to departing. In some cases, cars may be ready at the pier; a copy of the contract will be sent via onboard e-mail so guests may register in advance to expedite the process of picking up their car.
