Grand Turk

Grand Turk

Grand Turk is the capital of Turks & Caicos, and it has been a longtime favorite destination for divers eager to explore the 7,000-foot-deep pristine coral walls that drop down only 300 yards out to sea. On shore, the tiny island is home to white-sand beaches, the National Museum, and a few wild horses and donkeys, which leisurely meander past the white-walled courtyards, pretty churches, and bougainvillea-covered colonial inns on their daily commute into town.

The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 180 days before the cruise begins.

Experience the natural history and cultural heritage of Grand Turk during this off-road island adventure.

Depart the pier for the drive via off-road vehicle to the airport. Upon arrival, you will view the space capsule in which astronaut John Glenn splashed down in the Atlantic near the Turks and Caicos Islands. You will then travel through the center of the island's capital city, Cockburn Town, for a scenic ride past the early 19th-century Bermudian-styled buildings along historic Front Street. From here, you will view the ruins of old salt ponds, or salinas, and learn how salt was produced. You will also see the windmills that were used to funnel natural seawater from one salina to another.

Next, you will take an off-road drive along the Town Salina, where you may see pink flamingoes foraging for food. You will then make your way to the top of Breezy Brae for breathtaking views over the Atlantic Ocean. From here, you will pass the North Creek and proceed along a narrow sand track to North Wells, home to many indigenous wild horses, donkeys and cows.

After passing through North Creek, you will continue to pass the St. Thomas Anglican Church, the first church built on Grand Turk by Bermudian settlers, en route to the southeast side of the island. Along the way, you will ascend Gun Hill for spectacular vistas and photo opportunities of Gibb's Cay, and many tiny uninhabited islands in the Atlantic Ocean.

Your tour will conclude with a brief stop at Governor's Beach, where you will have an opportunity to relax and take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear water before re-boarding your off-road vehicle for the return drive to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves travel over bumpy and uneven surfaces. This tour is not recommended for pregnant guests, guests with back and/or neck problems, guests with limited mobility or guests who utilize a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear a swimsuit under a cover-up, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and bring a towel from the ship. Guests under the age of six will not be permitted on this tour.
