Port: Juneau

Juneau

Juneau

In 1880, Joe Juneau and Richard Harris were searching for gold with the help of Indian guides. Finally, they found nuggets "as large as beans." Out of their discoveries came three of the largest gold mines in the world where more than $150 million in gold was mined. Eventually the mines closed, but the town Juneau founded became the capital of Alaska. Its total area makes it the biggest town, in size, in North and South America - and the second largest in the world.

The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 180 days before the cruise begins.

Glacier Landing Adventure By Helicopter *
Tour Code: JNU-010
Duration: 2 hours
Retail Value: $499.00
Price: $199.00

Seated Tour Regent Choice

Discover four of Alaska's most spectacular glaciers during this scenic and exhilarating flightseeing tour.

Depart the pier for the brief transfer to the helipad. Upon arrival, you will board your helicopter for a unique flightseeing tour over four of Alaska's most spectacular glaciers. The flight time on this flightseeing adventure will enable you to see more of the majestic Juneau Icefield and its renowned glaciers. As a result, you will remain with the same pilot/ guide throughout the entire adventure.

Your pilot will fly you over the ice spires and pinnacles of the cascading, advancing or retreating glaciers. New picturesque areas emerge each day on this active glacial ice field. Your pilot/guide will choose one of these remote areas to land the helicopter on a glacier, and accompany you as you step out to explore this ancient landscape. As you peer down into a crevasse, watch for a glacial stream that emerges, then disappears, beneath the icy surface.

During the return trip, keep your eyes peeled for bears, mountain goats and moose as you fly over the lush rainforest and alpine lakes surrounding Juneau. Upon arrival at the helipad, you will be transferred back to the pier.

Please note: Guests are advised to wear warm clothing and sunglasses. Glacier boots will be provided. This tour involves approximately 30-35 minutes of flight-time, and 15-20 minutes on the glaciers. The tour routes may vary depending upon the weather. The minimum age to participate on this tour is two years old.
