POST - City of Design: Montreal and Tremblant
Explore the majestic countryside and quaint villages surrounding Montreal and then enjoy the city’s exquisite architecture, distinctive cuisine and French-influenced atmosphere.
Following disembarkation from the ship you will be introduced to various areas of Montreal that reflect its cultural diversity and French charm.
Your exploration begins in Old Montreal, where you will visit the magnificent, 19th-century Notre-Dame Basilica. Its stained-glass windows depict the history of Ville-Marie, the original name of Montreal. Continuing on, you will drive past the mansions within the Golden Square Mile, see McGill University and then pause at the summit of Mt. Royal Park for a panoramic view of the city. Then, it’s on to famed Little Italy for a stroll through sprawling Jean-Talon Market, complete with tastings from local producers.
In time, you will explore the fashionable neighborhood of Plateau Mont-Royal, known for its distinctive architecture, wrought-iron staircases and Francophile atmosphere. More spectacular views await you on the islands of St. Helens and Notre-Dame in the Saint Lawrence River.
Finally, you will walk through a portion of the Montreal Metro, an underground system of tunnels and alleys that link the city’s key destinations.
After your morning of exploration you will transfer to your hotel for check-in. The remainder of the day and evening are at your leisure with dinner being on your own.
After breakfast at the InterContinental Montreal hotel, you will set out to explore the Laurentian Mountains and Mont-Tremblant, the region’s foremost resort.
The Laurentians are one of the world’s oldest mountain chains and the region has enthusiastically preserved its natural setting of dense forests and verdant valleys dotted with picturesque villages. You will have some free time to browse the lovely village of Saint-Sauveur on the way to Mont-Tremblant.
Imbued with European charm, pedestrian-friendly Mont-Tremblant features an abundance of boutiques, restaurants and cafés. A complimentary cabriolet (small gondola) ride will bring you to the base of the mountain and village, where you will have time to explore and enjoy lunch on your own. For the most scenic view, you might ride the larger gondola (optional and at your expense) to the top of the mountain overlooking the village. It’s the highest peak in the east.
Upon returning to Montreal, you will transfer by coach to Old Town for a magnificent culinary experience. Accompanied by a “foodie” tour guide, you will enjoy a progressive dinner of three courses, each one served in a different restaurant. It’s a wonderful way to savor the local cuisine with an expert that can elaborate on the origin of the dishes and their traditional preparation.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Check out is at 12:00nn. You will be transferred to the Pierre Trudeau International Airport based on your flight details. Should you have a late flight, luggage storage will be available at the hotel.
