Cairns
Cairns is the capital of Far North Queensland, and its east coastal cities rest along the Great Barrier Reef. The state of Queensland occupies a vast 667,000 square miles and much of the land remains uninhabited, covered with miles of rainforest where Australian teak, hopp, pine and fig trees abound. Before 1879, when the city of Cairns was established, the only inhabitants of this region were the Aborigines, the culture for which Australia is perhaps best known.
The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 180 days before the cruise begins.

For a truly memorable Australian experience, join fellow guests for a ride on the amazing Skyrail and a visit to the charming village of Kuranda. Starting off from the pier, you'll first make your way to the nearby Skyrail Rainforest Cable Car Station. Upon arrival, you'll board one of the comfortable gondolas for a truly amazing journey over Australia's World Heritage listed Tropical Rainforest canopy and into the rainforest itself.
Spanning approximately 4 1/2 miles over pristine rainforest, Skyrail allows you to explore the wonders of this ancient tropical rainforest, and learn about one of the most botanically fascinating and diverse areas on earth. Gliding just a few feet above the rainforest canopy, the Skyrail journey immerses you in an intimate rainforest experience where you will see, smell and become part of the tropical rainforest environment. Your Skyrail adventure includes time at two mid-stations where you can learn more about this fascinating environment from the forest floor. At Red Peak Station, Skyrail's Rangers will provide guided boardwalk tours while sharing their knowledge about the rainforest. The easy access walkways at Barron Falls station take you on three separate lookouts where you will be treated to breathtaking views of Barron Gorge and Barron Falls. This station is also where you'll find the state-of-the-art Rainforest Interpretation Center.
At the completion of your Skyrail journey, you'll proceed to the center of Kuranda, a delightful village nestled in the heart of the rainforest. Established as a railway station in the mid 1800s when logging and mining were large industries on the Atherton Tablelands, Kuranda became known as a place to stock up on goods and also where one could enjoy culture and sophistication at one of the local hotels. Today, this colorful township is a haven for markets, cafés, and restaurants. After a brief overview of the town, you'll have some free time to further explore on your own. No doubt you'll want to take the opportunity to browse the shops for local artwork, crafts, opals or aboriginal souvenirs.
Re-joining your coach, you'll begin the journey back Cairns, enjoying further views of the picturesque landscape which surrounds Cairns, including Green Island off in the distance.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 1 1/2 hours of walking and/or standing, at times over uneven natural surfaces. There are some steps to negotiate and guests must step-up to board the Skyrail. This tour is not available to guests who utilize a wheelchair and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. The Skyrail Cable car seats 6 guests per gondola and guests may experience a slight delay during loading and unloading. Comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and insect repellant are recommended. The order of sights visited may vary and the itinerary may be reversed.
