Bangkok (Laem Chabang)
Bangkok is the capital and largest city in Thailand. It began as a small trading center on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River serving the Ayutthaya Kingdom, the precursor of modern Thailand which existed from 1350 to 1767. The city has vastly modernized and undergone numerous changes, including the introduction of transportation and utility infrastructure in the reigns of King Mongkut and King Chulalongkorn, and quickly developed into the economic centre of Thailand.
The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 180 days before the cruise begins.

Explore three historic homes and gain an insight into the famous people who've resided in them during this half-day visit to Bangkok.
Depart the hotel for the drive to three of Bangkok's most historic homes. Your first stop will be Jim Thompson's House, built in the Old Thai style. It was the work of Mr. Jim Thompson, an American who came to Thailand at the end of World War II and revitalized the Thai silk industry. His disappearance into the Malaysian jungle remains a mystery to this day. The house, which has been converted into a museum, displays Mr. Thompson's extensive collection of Thai paintings, pottery, Benjarong porcelain and Khmer statues. This famous collection is contained in seven old teak houses set in a lush garden.
Next, you will continue on for a visit to the unique Lacquer Pavilion at Suan Pakkard Palace, home of Princess Chumbhot of Nagara Svarga. Built in the Old Thai style, this picturesque home is adorned with 17th-century murals in gold leaf and magnificent woodcarvings, and a collection of rare antiques representing every aspect of Thai art.
Your tour will conclude with a visit to the home of M.R. Kukrit, a man of many talents. His remarkable career included serving as a recruit in the army, banking, university lecturing, writing, and politics. He also established the first political party in Thailand in 1945, and served as Prime Minister in 1974-1975; the most turbulent period for Thailand and Southeast Asia.
Please note: This tour will depart from and end at the Shangri-La Hotel.
