Port: Noumea

Noumea

Noumea

Capital of the French territory New Celedonia, Noumea played an important role in World War II, serving as the headquarters of the United States military in the Pacific. It boasts the most sunshine of any Pacific island capital, and is also the most European-influenced. Called “The Paris of the Pacific,” it features fine French dining, designer boutiques, and cosmopolitan residents. Just off the coast, the longest barrier reef in the world shelters 350 species of coral and 1,500 species of fish.

The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 180 days before the cruise begins.

Indulge your senses with the exotic sites, flavors and culture of Noumea during this delightful cruise to Amedee Lighthouse Island.

Depart the pier aboard the Mary D. Dolphin, Noumea's newest, biggest and most luxurious high-speed ferry, for a relaxing cruise to Amedee Lighthouse Island. A naturally-protected marine park, this idyllic island is highlighted by crystal-clear waters and a beautiful white-sand beach. En route, you will be served an espresso, a cappuccino or fresh drink from the full-service bar as you ride in comfortable lounge seating on the air-conditioned main deck.

Upon arrival at Amedee Lighthouse Island, you will be greeted with a welcome drink and begin your scenic tour. Along the way, you will visit Amedee's post office, the world's smallest, and view its special official cancellation stamp. You will then take a glass-bottomed boat ride out to the reef to feed the sharks, and watch coconut tree-climbing and sarong-tying demonstrations.

Next, you will be served an exotic buffet lunch, and be entertained by an island dance show featuring the fire dance and tamoure; a dance performed by beautiful island girls.

Following your visit, you will embark the ferry for the return ride to the pier.

Please note: Although snorkeling equipment is not included, it may be rented on the island for guests who do not bring their own equipment from the ship. Please wear a swimsuit under a cover-up, and bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and a towel from the ship. Guests must be at least 21 years of age to be served alcoholic beverages.
