Port: Praslin Island
|
Praslin Island
Praslin is the second largest island of the Seychelles, lying north east of Mahé. Originally known as a hideaway by pirates and Arab merchants, Lazare Picault named the island “Isle de Palmes” in 1744. In 1768 it was renamed Praslin in honor of Cesar Gabriel de Choiseul, duc de Praslin, a French diplomat. Tropical forests and nature preserves abound, housing the unique coco de mer and vanilla orchids.
The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 180 days before the cruise begins.
Embrace the pristine beauty of the Seychelles during this scenic cruise to Aride Island.
Depart the pier via motorboat for the 45-minute ride to Aride Island. Owned by the Royal Society of Nature Conservation, Aride Island is among the most striking of the Seychelles' granitic islands. The island's sheer escarpments offer spectacular views and photo opportunities. Aride is also home to frigate birds, brush warblers, roseate terns, red-tailed tropic birds, and the largest concentration of Noddy and Sooty terns of any granitic island in the Seychelles.
During a stroll on the island's nature trail, you will take in panoramic views of the surrounding islands and have an opportunity to photograph the rare Wright's garden plant. Some time will also be made available for you to take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean, or bask in the sun. A barbecue Creole-style lunch will be served on the beach.
Following your visit, you will embark your motorboat for the 45-minute return ride to the pier.
Please note: The boat ride from the pier to Aride is approximately 45 minutes in each direction. Zodiacs will be used to disembark in Aride - be prepared for a wet landing. This tour is only recommended for active guests that can easily embark/disembark moving boats. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility or guests who utilize a wheelchair. Wear a swimsuit under a cover-up with beach shoes, and bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and a towel from the ship. Masks and snorkels will be provided.
