Port: Singapore

Singapore

Singapore

Sir Thomas Raffles founded Singapore in 1819, and by 1953 it was declared a British colony. In 1963 Singapore joined Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak to form the Federation of Malaysia. Cultural tension grew between the Chinese people of Singapore, who greatly outnumbered the Malays, until 1965 when both groups agreed that Singapore separate, becoming its own independent nation. Today Singapore is one of the world's largest ports and one of Asia's great crossroads.

The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 180 days before the cruise begins.

Light Activity Limited Mobility

Discover a wide array of diverse Asian cultures, lifestyles and sites old and new during this scenic visit to Singapore.

Modern Singapore is a city comprised of concrete, glass, freeways and shopping centers. Singapore features many diverse cultures and lifestyles from its waterfront to the Singapore River, once the thriving heart of the city. In the bustling streets of Chinatown, fortune tellers, calligraphers and temple worshipers are still a part of everyday life.

You will depart the pier for a drive along the Colonial heart of Singapore. Along the way, you will pass the Victoria Theater, Victoria Memorial Hall, Parliament House, Supreme Court, City Hall, St. Andrew's Cathedral, Raffles Hotel for a photo stop, and Sultan Mosque before stopping at the Sri Mariamman Hindu Temple. This magnificent structure is Singapore's oldest Hindu temple. During your visit, you will observe a profusion of deities carved all over its walls; its doors are adorned with bells, and ceilings with splendid frescoes.

Next, you will proceed up Mount Faber for wonderful panoramic views and photo opportunities of the city and harbor en route to the Botanical Gardens. Here, you will take a relaxing and enjoyable stroll amidst exotic orchids in the new national orchid exhibit.

Following your tour, you will rejoin your coach and be dropped off at the hotel, or returned to the ship at the Harborfront Center.
