St. John's
When Columbus discovered Antigua in 1493, he encountered the unfriendly Carib Indians. Columbus named the island Santa Maria de Antigua, in honor of a church in Spain. For many years, both the Spanish and French were unable to settle on the island due to the fierce nature of the Caribs. But in 1632, the British took control of this island, developing the sugarcane industry with the use of slaves imported from Africa. In 1981 Antigua was granted independence anb became a British commonwealth.
The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 180 days before the cruise begins.

Experience the scenic beauty of the Caribbean in an exhilarating new way during this eco-tour through the treetops of Antigua's lush rainforest.
Depart the pier for the 40-minute drive to Antigua's rainforest, and the Antigua Rainforest Company. Upon arrival, you will receive a cool towel to refresh yourself, then prepare for your canopy adventure. Your rangers will provide you with a safety briefing, then outfit you with a state-of-the-art safety harness and helmet.
Your exhilarating canopy adventure through the verdant treetops of the forest will begin at the Old Pump House. From the side of the building, you will walk over a suspension bridge and some short trails into the gorge, then proceed along the zip lines that traverse the forest and crisscross the gorge at tree-canopy levels.
The gorge is full of interesting plants, fruits, vines, moss, and lichen, along with large trees, prominent boulders, a rock pool and small waterfall. The zip lines range from 52 feet to 328 feet in length. In all, there are nine zip lines, two suspension bridges, a vertical descent and tree house that offer panoramic bird's-eye views of the flora, fauna and birds of the rainforest. The geography of the gorge dictates that you will be above the treetops for a large part of the tour, and pass through a corridor of foliage at either end.
