Port: Sydney
|
Sydney
The city of Sydney began life as a penal colony in 1788 and for the next 60 years received the unwanted, persecuted and criminal elements of British society. The discovery of gold and the breeding of sheep accelerated Sydney's development. Today Sydney is the busiest port in the South Pacific. Despite its brutal beginnings, the city's mixture of pragmatic egalitarianism and plain indifference has transformed it into a thriving multicultural society.
The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 180 days before the cruise begins.
Sydney Sights, Opera House & Bondi Tour Code: SYD-005 Duration: 4 hours Retail Value: $99.00 Price: Free

Leaving the pier by coach, you will first make your way to one of Sydney's icons - the Opera House. The Sydney Opera House was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on October 20, 1973, and is today one of Sydney's most famous landmarks. Stopping here, you'll enjoy a guided tour of this imposing building with its distinctive sail-like roof while learning about its history, design and current role. Following your tour, some brief free time will be allowed to stroll about on your own.
Re-boarding your coach, you'll continue on to the Gap at Watson's Bay, which is the south head of the entrance to Sydney Harbour. The spectacular views across the gap between the north and south heads make for some memorable photos and you might recognize that this is where your ship sailed into Sydney Harbour. A brief stop for photos will be allotted.
Before returning to the ship, a short stop is made at Bondi Beach, Australia's world-famous surfing beach. Both Syndeysiders and tourists alike each come to enjoy the half-mile crescent of sandy beach and the delightful eateries and shops which line the main street.
Please note: This tour includes considerable walking and a large number of steps to negotiate, and therefore is not available to guests who utilize a wheelchair and not considered suitable for those with mobility concerns. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The order of sights visited may vary and the itinerary may be reversed. This tour does not operate with a separate guide, but rather with a driver/guide.
