Explore the rich legacy and cultural past of a small but historic Chinese island during this half-day visit to Gulangyu.
Depart the pier for the transfer to the Xiamen Ferry Pier. Upon arrival, you will embark a ferry for the ride to Gulangyu Island. With a total land area of only 0.7 square miles, this tiny island has a rich historical and cultural past, and was once used as the region's International Foreign Settlement. Today, the only reminders of the settlement are the charming Colonial buildings that blanket the island.
After disembarking the ferry, you will board an electric vehicle for the transfer to the Haoyue Garden. Located along the coast, it offers a panoramic view of Xiamen City and features a 51.5-foot-tall statue of General Koxinga, or Zheng Chenggong. During your visit to the Haoyue Garden, you will attend a martial arts demonstration and learn several basic movements.
Next, your drive will continue on to the Haitian Tanggou Villa Complex, which features a blend of Chinese and European architecture. Here, a traditional puppet show, Nanyin performance and a family concert will entertain you, with refreshments served in between. Afterward, you will walk back to the ferry station. En route, you will pass by charming old Colonial buildings and villas which represent the unique architectural style of an era that is long since past, but not forgotten.
Following your return ride to Xiamen via ferry, you will re-board your coach for the return drive to the pier.
Please note: The local ferry is not exclusive to RSSC guests. The ferry-ride between Xiamen and Gulangyu Island is only several minutes in each direction, but seats are not guaranteed and guests may have to stand. The tour on Gulangyu will mainly be conducted on foot, as no cars or buses are permitted on the island. For some parts of the tour, an electric vehicle will be used for transportation.
