Zakynthos is the third largest of the Ionian Islands and is famous for its wonderful sandy beaches and surrounding crystalline blue waters. The terrain on the island itself is varied; with fertile plains found in the southeastern part and the western section being more mountainous and boasting dramatic steep cliffs along the coastline. The island is also well-known as a habitat for the endangered Caretta-Caretta Logerhead turtles.

Zakynthos Town, historically known as The Venice of the South, is the island's modern capital and was nearly completely destroyed by an earthquake and fire on August 9, 1953. Afterwards, the town was rebuilt, taking care to preserve its original Venetian and Byzantine style wherever possible.

Arriving ashore, you will board your coach and make the short drive to the main square where you will commence a guided walking tour that passing by Solomos Square, named after the poet who wrote the National Anthem of Greece. Your walking tour will also take you past Zakynthos' important buildings, such as the Byzantine Museum, the Church of Saint Nicholas and the Cultural Center of Zakynthos along with strolling along the major shopping street.

Re-boarding your coach, you will continue to Bohali village, which is located below the Venetian fortress and offers incredible views of Zakynthos town and the surrounding areas for as far as the eye can see. After a brief photo stop, it's on to the Monastery of Anafonitria, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, it is the oldest monastery on the island (14th century) and is where St. Dionysios, Patron saint of Zakynthos served as abbot for the majority of his life until his death in 1624. St. Dionysios (St. Dennis) was well-known for his healing powers and compassion and was declared a saint in 1703. During recent renovations, some wonderful 15th century frescos were uncovered. Following your visit at the Monastery, you will head to your final stop, Volimes.

Volimes is a traditional mountain village that is famous for products such as handicrafts, rugs, embroideries, china, honey and pure olive oil, all displayed along the roadside. Free time will be afforded for browsing before returning back to pier.

Please note: This tour consists of approximately 1 hour of moderate walking and is not available to wheelchair guests. Those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Comfortable, flat-heeled, closed-toe walking shoes, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are recommended. Shoulders and knees must be covered while visiting the Monastery. The tour's duration can vary based upon the time of year visited. Due to seasonal closings, for April calls the stop at Volimes village will be substituted with a visit to an olive factory near Likathia village. Here you will be able to observe the production of Zakinthos' famous olive oil.
