It is also our gateway to Petra, which dates back to perhaps 7000 BC and was one of the earliest known farming communities in the Middle East. The town was built out of solid red rock and features intricate carvings. It was once the capital of the flourishing Nabataean civilization that stretched from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea. Enter the site through a half-mile long chasm and come face-to-face with the magnificent Treasury, Petra’s ancient masterpiece.

Described by novelist T. E. Lawrence as "vast, echoing and God-like," and acclaimed by many as one of the most stunning desert landscapes in the world, Wadi Rum is spectacular in its natural beauty. On this half-day adventure, you will explore this nature lover's paradise, using off-road vehicles that will take you deep into the heart of the desert, where fabled British officer, Lawrence of Arabia fought during the Great Arab Revolt of 1917-1918.
From the pier, you will drive by motorcoach to the village of Rum, approximately 50 miles north of Aqaba. Here, you will transfer to your off-road vehicles to begin a two-hour journey through the starkly beautiful Wadi Rum, with its sheer granite and sandstone cliffs, and uniquely shaped mountains rising dramatically out of the sand. The magnificent scenery, including the towering cliffs of weathered stone, ancient riverbeds and mauve-colored stretches of sand will amaze you, as you drive through the desert with your local guide.
Wadi Rum is also home to several Bedouin tribes who live in scattered camps throughout the area. At the conclusion of your drive, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing cup of mint tea or cardamom coffee at a Bedouin camp. Leaving the hauntingly stunning scenery behind, you will reboard your motorcoach for the return drive to Aqaba.
Please note: This tour includes limited walking and is available to wheelchair guests who have a collapsible wheelchair; are able to make their own way on and off the vehicles with limited assistance; and have an able-bodied companion to assist them. There will be approximately 2-hours of desert driving in the off-road vehicles which are older vehicles that have no air-conditioning or seat belts and are owned and operated by the local Bedouins. Weather appropriate clothing (it can be cool in the Spring and Fall; sun cap; sunglasses; a bottle of water from the ship; and flat, comfortable shoes are recommended.

Supplement will apply on Regent Choice excursions (indicated by the above) and excludes Private Arrangements and all Adventures Ashore programs.
