Hong Kong, China-port

In 1841, Hong Kong became a British Crown colony when it was acquired from China. In 1984, Britain and China signed an agreement which stated Hong Kong would return to China, but that it would maintain in its capitalist system for 50 years. This transfer took place during on June 30, 1997 under great pomp and ceremony. Its enormous harbor, vast industrialization and free port status make it a major Asian crossroad, and perhaps the best place to shop in the world.

Enjoy this leisurely harbor cruise and appreciate the spectacular skyscrapers of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, and the dynamic Tsing Ma Bridge from the unique vantage point of a traditional Chinese-style junk.

It's a fifteen minute walk from the cruise ship pier to the Kowloon Public Pier where you will step on board a motorized junk and begin your journey. Once underway, you'll be passing the remarkable infrastructural landmark of Kowloon Wharf and the outstanding buildings of the Central and Wan Chai waterfronts displaying Hong Kong's incredible architectural phenomenon. You will also pass the world's largest container terminal and traditional shipyards, as well as Stonecutter's Island, the British Royal Navy Base until June 1997, now belonging to the Chinese PLA Navy.

Sit back and enjoy some snacks and beverages as the sights continue to unfold around you, inlcuding one of Hong Kong's oldest typhoon shelters, and finally, the spectacular Tsing Ma Bridge linking the new Hong Kong airport with the urban districts. The world's longest two-deck suspension bridge carrying both road and rail traffic, Tsing Ma has a main span of 4,518 feet and is 300 feet high. After viewing the architectural wonders of the bridge, you will sail back to the Kowloon public pier, and then walk back to the cruise ship pier.
