    Beijing's extraordinary past comes alive as you explore some of the world's most renowned historical sites. Tiananmen Square is the largest public square in the world and the center of many significant events in China's history. A 250-acre complex, the Forbidden City is home to some of the most important treasures of China's imperial past. Just outside the Forbidden City, visit the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, an ornate, triple-gabled edifice that stands at center of the Temple of Heaven complex. Travel beyond Beijing to the Great Wall of China, constructed over 2,000 years ago and stretching 5,500 miles.

    DAY 1 - March 18th, 2014

    Upon arrival in Beijing International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel.

    Dinner on own and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

    DAY 2 - March 19th, 2014

    Following breakfast, enjoy a scenic ride to the Great Wall at Juyongguan. Explore the amazing Great Wall, actually a series of walls first constructed over 2000 years ago in an attempt to ward off northern nomads.

    Following lunch, continue to one of the Ming Tombs. Learn more about the burial rituals employed during the Ming dynasty before returning to your hotel.

    In the evening, enjoy a traditional Peking duck dinner at a renowned local restaurant.

    All meals are included today.

    DAY 3 - March 20th, 2014

    Enjoy an early breakfast in the hotel before venturing to the Temple of Heaven. Initially built in 1420, this is the site where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worship heaven and pray for a bumper harvest. It is listed in the World Heritage in 1998. The main structure in the vast compound is the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, a magnificent triple-gabled circular building. Completely wooden, without any nails, it is one of the architectural wonders of ancient China. The Temple of Heaven is also a public park where local people begin their day with such morning activities as playing Tai Chi, singing Peking Opera or writing Chinese calligraphy.

    You are free to walk around the pine-lined ground or take part in the Tai Chi exercise!

    After the visit, transfer back to the hotel and enjoy rest of the day on your own exploration of the city.

    DAY 4 - March 21st, 2014

    After breakfast at the hotel, visit impressive Tian'anmen Square, the largest public square in the world and site of many important events in Chinese history.

    Then, visit the Forbidden City, home to the emperors in the Ming and Qing dynasties and a 250-acre complex of pavilions, halls, courtyards and gates showcasing some of the most important treasures of China's imperial past.

    After lunch at a local restaurant, transfer to Seven Seas Voyager for embarkation.

    Expected Weather: Beijing’s weather in March, the transitional period from the cold winter to the warm spring, is very changeable. The temperature rises and falls frequently and sharply, with a big difference between day time and night time. Cold air sometimes attacks the city especially in early and mid March. The average high temperature is 12 C / 54 F and the average low temperature is 0 C / 32 F

    What to Bring: Generally, a sweater and a thick jacket are enough in early March, but take an extra outer layer, gloves and hat as well in case you encounter any unexpected strong winds and a sharp fall in temperature. If coming in late March, a thin sweater plus a light windproof jacket will be adequate. The attire is casual for the entire program. An umbrella is also recommended for spring weather.

    Currency: The Chinese Yuan, denoted by CNY, is the official currency in China. You can use US dollars / Euros/ English pounds in hotels, in friendship stores, to buy things from vendors in the scenic spots, to pay for any optional tours and to tip porters of the hotels, tour guides and drivers or whomever you want to tip. You cannot use US dollars or other foreign currencies in department stores or small convenience stores, local restaurants, or if you try to buy things from some street vendors.

    Electricity: The electricity in China is generally 220V, 50HZ, AC. A transformer is necessary. Most of the hotels in China have both 110V and 220V electrical outlets in the bathrooms, though in the guest rooms usually only 220V sockets are available.
