Discover the many interesting insights into life outside of Singapore during a scenic tour that encircles this bustling island city.
Depart the pier for the drive to the Tiong Bahru 'Wet' Market, a wet market where many typical Singapore families buy vegetables and food for home cooking. You will then explore the northern part of the island with a visit to Kranji Dam, once a swampy area used as the first landing spot for Japanese advance boats during World War II. From here, you will have a clear view across the water to Johore Bahru, Malaysia's southernmost city.
Next, you will continue on to the Kranji War Memorial. Unveiled in 1957, this is the last resting-place for many of the Allied soldiers, and more than 20,000 men and women who lost their lives in World War II. Following your visit, you will proceed for a tasty Chinese lunch at the Orchid Country Club, or similar. After lunch, a stop will be made at Bright Hill Temple, a famous Chinese ancestral place of worship.
The final loop of the tour will take you to Changi. Driving past the Johore Battery, you will have an opportunity to view a replica of the 15-inch Monster Gun, the largest to be installed outside Britain during World War II. Your last stop will be at the Changi Chapel and Museum, which focuses on the memories and lives of the POWs and civilian internees who survived the Japanese occupation. The Changi Chapel is a symbolic replica of the chapel at the infamous Changi Prison, the same one noted in James Calvell's King Rat.
Following your visit, you will re-board your coach for the return drive to the pier.
