Seville (Cádiz), Spain-port

Cádiz, Andalusia's world-renowned capital, has undergone major restoration in recent years. Palm trees, gracious squares, flower-filled parks, ubiquitous red-tile roofed buildings, and bustling street markets make this a most delightful port. The old town, on the tip of the peninsula, is buzzing with beautiful, lively plazas. To get there, you pass through the new town, an elegant metropolis with excellent beaches. Cádiz is also a good starting point for a day trip to nearby Seville, where you can visit the Alcazar, a beautiful medieval Islamic palace showcasing a unique fusion of Christian and Moorish architecture surrounded by lovely gardens; majestic Seville Cathedral (Catedral de Sevilla); and Giralda Tower, offering excellent photo opportunities.

Discover Cadiz's exquisite historic sites and architecture during this picturesque walking tour through the city.

You'll see the Plaza de San Juan de Dios, the Town Hall, and the 18th century Baroque and neo-classical Cathedral. It took 116 years to complete, so the mix of styles is evident. Construction began in the Baroque style and was completed in the neoclassic style. There are sculptural works from the old cathedral inside. The towers and the sacristy were built last, in the 19th century. The vaults of the high altar and the choir stalls are noteworthy, although the latter are not from the cathedral. There are some very beautiful Baroque images. The church is topped with a dome of gilded brick, which gives it an impressive look. The brilliant Manuel de Falla is buried in the crypt. Discover the interesting interior, including the museum which belongs to the cathedral and which contains the treasure of the cathedral.

Following your visit, you will walk to Plaza Flores and then on to Plaza de España, crossing the Plaza San Antonio and the Plaza Mina, before your walk brings you back to the pier.

Please note: Guests are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes for this tour, which takes place entirely on-foot. Guests with limited mobility and guests who utilize a wheelchair will not be permitted on this tour. Dress conservatively, making sure to cover the shoulders and knees for the interior visit to the Cathedral. Bring sunglasses and a hat for additional sun protection, as the summer afternoon temperatures are quite hot. If an inside visit to the Cathedral is not possible, then a visit to the Church of San Felipe Neri will be substituted. The visit to the Town Hall is arranged with prior permission; however, it is not always accessible to guests.
