Crab Safari and Ice Bar

The giant King Crab was introduced to the Barents Sea by Russian scientists during the 1960's. The crab thrived in these waters and spread quite rapidly to the west where it can now be found along the North Norwegian coast. As the number of this species is in the millions, it naturally consumes a great deal and there is the concern that it may have an impact on the local ecosystem. Due to its large numbers, controlled fishing is now allowed. It is said to be delicious and its meat can compete with that of lobsters, bringing high prices on the commercial market. The King Crab can live to 30 years old, measuring up to 6.5 feet between its claws and weigh as much as 22 pounds. The catch in the crab pots will however, most likely be smaller, between 6 and 15 pounds.
This adventure will depart the pier for a short walk to the North Cape Adventure Center, where you will receive a security briefing and the equipment required for the tour. Your comfortable and approved flotation suit will protect you against low temperatures, and serve as a body-sized life jacket at the same time. After a brief stroll, board the deep-sea raft with your driver/guide and set off towards the Sarnesfjord to inspect the crab-pots. Along the way, you will have the chance to take photos of the King Crab once the pots have been pulled so don't forget to bring your camera.
Once you have completed checking the crab pots you will continue to shore to Lavvo Camp; which is a Sami tent with an open fire in the middle of the tent and you sit on the ground on reindeer skins. In the tent the crabs will be prepared and cooked for you to enjoy!
Continue back in the rafts to Honningsvåg where you will end the adventure part of the tour and turn in your floatation suit. Next, you visit the Artico Ice Bar. At the Artico Ice Bar, the magic of winter, complete with ice and snow has been simulated in this indoor environment, including the temperature, a cool 23 degrees Fahrenheit. You will be provided with proper clothing before entering the bar where everything is made of pure ice from the lakes of Lappland. Enjoy your time with a complimentary non-alcoholic beverage. When you are done relaxing; take a short walk through the center of Honningsvåg and then back to the pier where your tour concludes.
Please note: This tour includes a moderate amount of activity. The tour is not available to guests who utilize a wheelchair, those with heart conditions or mobility concerns. Participants should be in good physical condition and anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be allowed on the tour. Minimum age to participate is 4 years old and guests under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult parent or guardian. Each guest must sign a waiver form before being permitted to participate in the tour. Warm clothing and flat, sturdy walking shoes are recommended. This tour may be cancelled on short notice in the event of adverse weather conditions.
