Behold the hauntingly beautiful landscape of Dartmoor National Park, followed by a delightful stop for a traditional cream tea.

After departing from the pier, you will drive inland into Dartmoor National Park, a 368-square-mile paradise considered one of Britain’s finest Breathing Spaces. Because of its size, Dartmoor covers a wide variety of terrain such as heather-clad moorland, rushing rivers, bogs and ancient forests.

The landscape is so thoroughly unforgettable that has been featured in numerous movies, including the Academy Award-nominated “Warhorse.” Dartmoor was also the inspired setting for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s haunting Gothic tale “The Hound of the Baskervilles.”

As you travel through Dartmoor, traffic conditions permitting, you will pause every so often for photos of the impossibly picturesque landscape. You might even see a herd of wild ponies, a common sight since the 10th century. A brief stop at the High Moorland Visitor Centre in Princetown reveals even more about the area’s wildlife, geology, archaeology and cultural heritage.

Later, you will delight in another activity synonymous with Devonshire: partaking of cream tea. The essential ingredient is Devonshire clotted cream, which comes from Jersey cattle that graze solely in local pastures. Anything else is considered inferior. The same goes for the order of the ingredients. In Devon, the clotted cream is first spread on the scone, followed by a dollop of jam. In Cornwall, it’s jam first, followed by the cream.

Either way, you are sure to enjoy the experience before returning to the pier.

Please note: This tour is primarily panoramic in nature but does include approximately 30-minutes of easy walking/standing at Visitor Centre. The tour is available to wheelchair guests who have a collapsible wheelchair, are able to make their own way on and off the coach, and have an able-bodied companion to assist them. Those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Warm layered clothing; an umbrella in case of rain; and flat, sturdy walking shoes or boots is recommended.
