Beaupre Coast, St-Anne Canyon and Winery

Light Activity /Walking

Duration: 4 hours

Tour Code: YQB-002

The Beaupré Coast just outside Quebec City is staggeringly beautiful with rocky cliffs and dramatic waterfalls, and you'll see the best of it before visiting a signature local winery.

Departing from the pier by coach, you'll leave Quebec City and follow the beautiful Beaupré Coast, which runs along the St. Lawrence River. Nestled here in the foothills of the Laurentian Mountains, it's one breathtaking sight after another, including pastoral farmland, wildlife reserves, Montmorency Falls, and the idyllic Island of Orleans. Still, the highlight remains St-Anne Canyon, a steep gorge carved out of a 900-million-year-old rock formation by the relentless force of water.

You'll approach the canyon by transferring to an open tram, and riding it to the roaring St-Anne-du-Nord River, which becomes a cascading, 243-feet waterfall in the canyon. Walk along the suspension bridges above the water, if you're feeling adventurous. Gazing upon this naturally formed canyon, the river thundering down its rocky cliffs is just as inspirational today as it was to American naturalist and author Henry David Thoreau, who visited in the mid-1800s. A specially designed vehicle can provide access for those who are mobility challenged to one of the walkways. The entire path is approximately 1-mile for those who wish to walk it; however, you may also choose to only walk a portion of it. Before leaving, there will be a bit of free time to browse the gift shop.

Next, it's on to an esteemed Canadian vineyard, where you'll learn about local wine making and sample some of the finest vintages. Because of the harsh winters, Quebec vineyards have rather short growing seasons, but the wines are surprisingly tasty and numerous, and several well-respected varietals are produced here.

After touring the vineyard, you will drive back to the pier, traveling via the bottom of Montmorency Falls where you will have some great views.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 2-hours of moderate walking/standing, plus any additional walking at the guests' discretion during the stops. There are various gradients and surfaces to negotiate. The tour is available to wheelchair guests who have a collapsible wheelchair, are able to make their own way on and off the coach and have an able-bodied companion to assist them. Scooters under 60 lbs. are permitted. Those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Rain resistant layered clothing and flat, comfortable walking shoes are suggested.
