Discover the Dramatic North Coast
Duration: 5 hours
Tour Code: LPA-002
Experience life on Grand Canary's rugged north shore by visiting scenic coastal villages and two plantations nestled in the lush Agaete Valley.
Starting off from the pier, you'll begin by driving along a predominately coastal roadway that follows the craggy northern shore of Grand Canary. Scenic highlights along this route include steep cliffs plummeting to the sea, secluded coves and long stretches of volcanic black-sand beach. Villages tend to be rather secluded, as you'll see driving through quaint San Felipe. However, there are more populous areas such as Agaete, which lies at the end of steep ravine dotted with mango, orange and lemon trees. It's a beautiful setting that has long inspired artists and writers. During your visit here, you'll enjoy a walk through this small fishing village and if it's a clear day, you may catch sight of Mount Teide, the highest point in Spain, which towers above the neighboring island of Tenerife.
Continuing on, you'll travel into one of the greenest valleys of the island, "Valle de Agaete" where a wide variety of flowers, plants and trees grow, such as papayas, mangos, oranges, lemons, almonds, strelitzias flowers, palm trees, and many others. Here, you will visit "Huerto de las Flores" a beautiful tropical botanical garden that houses a large collection of exotic plants. There will be time to stroll about before heading to your next destination, Finca de Laja, a delightful rural plantation. After visiting the wine cellar and garden, you'll be treated to a traditional Canarian snack and sample some locally produced wine before driving back to the pier.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 2-hours of moderate to strenuous walking and includes some natural terrain, cobblestone surfaces, inclines and steps to negotiate. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. Weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Guests must be at least 21 years of age to participate in the wine-tasting.
