Kourion, Kolossi & Limassol Shopping
Duration: 4 hours
Tour Code: LML-005
Your tour begins with a scenic drive through the fertile foothills of Cyprus where most of the country's vineyards and the orchards of the Phassouri citrus groves are found while on your way to the ancient ruins of the city of Kourion. Arriving at this impressive Greco-Roman site, you can view remaining pavement mosaics, such as those preserved as the four-panel design in the central room at the House of Eustolios. Dating from the 4th to the middle of the 7th century, this fascinating ancient home was known to have thirty rooms with a bathing complex. The floors of the porticoes are paved with beautiful mosaic compositions that depict fish, birds and a partridge with Greek inscriptions. Nearby is the superb, large Greco-Roman theater built in the 2nd century BC which is still used today for many performances, including ancient dramas. Perched high on a cliff, this majestic and unspoiled location offers spectacular views of the ruins and the sapphire sea below.
Leaving Kourion, your next stop is at Kolossi Castle, a well-preserved stronghold standing three stories tall that was built by the Crusaders in the 13th century. Legend has it that one of the castle's most famous dwellers was Richard the Lionhearted. Your guide will share with you how the castle served as both the Grand Commander of the Knights of St. John's Order of Jerusalem, as well as the Knights Templar.
Arriving back in Limassol, you'll be afforded ample free time for shopping before returning to the pier. The wide array of shops that line the streets carry a variety of both international and local merchandise including jewelry, leather goods, clothing and local artifacts.
