Ciudadella City Highlights
Duration: 4 hours
Tour Code: MAH-001
The ancient capital of Minorca, Ciutadella perches at the western end of the island, a small but bustling port acclaimed for its medieval charm. A broad avenue known as the Contramurada encompasses this picturesque city and follows the route where the ancient city walls once towered. As you walk along the streets and through the squares of delightful Cuitadella, you will be struck by the abundance of splendid churches and Gothic and Baroque palaces. They rise as silent witnesses to the city's historic past. Nevertheless, Cuitadella has a flair for blending the past and present. For instance, the current town hall was once the palace of the Arab governor and later served as a royal palace, until the British moved Minorca's capital east to Mahon in 1722. Following your guided walking tour, you will have more than an hour to further explore Ciutadella, admiring its distinct Moorish and Spanish-influenced architecture.
Please note: This tour includes approximately one mile of walking over mainly flat surfaces with a few steps to negotiate.
