Palma City Highlights

Although Mallorca's capital of Palma has been a popular, modern resort city since the 1960s, it still retains a certain historic charm. You will begin at its landmark Gothic cathedral, known as 'La Seu," which contains four naves and an enormous rose window, which casts a beautiful light into the church. Another highlight is the wrought-iron canopy over the main altar, which was designed by famed Spanish architect Antonio Gaudì.
Next, it's a short walking tour to the city center where you will have some free time for shopping or browsing about. Then, rejoining your coach, you'll drive to Bellver Castle, which was constructed in the early 1300s, during the reign of Jaime I of Mallorca. It is the only circular Gothic castle in Europe with a double gallery of arches inside the central patio. You will also see the lovely San Marcos Chapel and the five halls that comprise the Palma History Museum before returning to the pier.
Please note: This tour inlcudes approximate 2 1/2 hours of easy to moderate walking, plus any addtional walking at the guests' discretion during free time. The walking does include cobblestone surfaces and there are approximately 40 steps in the walls, to reach the Cathedral from the bus drop off. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Shoulders must be covered when entering the cathedral. Only exterior visits of the cathedral are possible on Sunday calls.
