Barcelona On Your Own

Light Activity /Walking Minimal Activity Required

Duration: 8 hours

Tour Code: PMS-008

Explore Barcelona independently, spending as much time as you like wherever you like, without feeling rushed or obliged to see anything but your favorite attractions.

After departing from the pier, you will drive approximately ninety minutes down the coast to Barcelona, where you will have the day to yourself to do whatever you please, starting in the heart of the city. While this is not a guided tour, an escort will accompany you on the coach and provide a brief orientation before you set-off on your own. Feel free to ask them for assistance with any questions you may have that will help you with your self-exploration of the city.

If you like stunning architecture, you’ll want to be sure to see the towering Sagrada Familia, the still unfinished 19th-century church designed by modernist architect Antoni Gaudi. He also created Casa Batllo, a whimsical residential masterpiece with undulated balconies and a main façade covered with mosaics inspired by nature. It’s a sight to behold.

For a historical perspective, there is Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, where the ancient Romans laid out many of the winding atmospheric streets. Other avenues well worth strolling include leafy La Ramblas, which is lined with sidewalk cafés and elegant shops, and Passeig de Gracia, Barcelona’s grandest boulevard.

Art aficionados will love the masterpieces found in the Picasso Museum and the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art. Or if you are interested in an extraordinary view of the city, take the funicular to hilltop Tibidabo and then ride the glass elevator to the top of the 377-foot telecommunications tower.

After approximately five hours of exploring, simply return at the designated time at the meeting place and rejoin your coach for the drive back to the pier in Palamos.

Please note: Walking on this tour is at the guests’ discretion. Participants may encounter uneven and cobblestone streets in certain sections of the city. The tour is available to wheelchair guests that have a collapsible wheelchair, are able to make their own way on and off the coach, and have an able-bodied companion to assist them. Weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; a bottle of water from the ship; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
