Canadas Del Tiede
Duration: 8 hours
Tour Code: TCI-007
Marvel at the picturesque villages and landscape within the National Park of the Cañadas, dominated by towering Mount Teide.
Depart from the port and drive toward the village of La Laguna, the island's capital nearly 300 years ago. Then, turning southwest, you will travel along Tenerife's inland spine through the lush pine forest of Esperanza. In time, the landscape becomes volcanic in nature, punctuated by bizarre rock formations and unusual flora that thrive in this high-altitude, low-moisture environment. Look in any direction, and the haunting beauty will mesmerize you.
The extinct volcano Mount Teide rises more than 12,000 feet above it all, distinguishing it as the highest elevation in Spain. Measured around its base, it ranks as the world's third largest volcano. It's so stunningly majestic that the entire surrounding national park has been deemed a World Heritage Site. Your vantage point for admiring this stark wilderness will be from nearby Ucanca Valley.
Then, heading north toward the sea, you will drive to La Orotava, an elevated area known for the numerous banana plantations carpeting the countryside. A walking tour here presents the city's charms, including the House of the Balconies. After a traditional Canarian lunch at the Hotel Tigaiga, you will drive to your final stop, the seaside resort city of Puerto de la Cruz where you will enjoy free time before driving back to the pier.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 90-minutes of moderate walking, at times over cobblestone surfaces and there are some inclines to negotiate in La Orotava. The trip will take you to an altitude of 7,600 feet over steep and winding roads and may not be suitable for those with heart and respiratory conditions or those who suffer from vertigo or a fear of heights. This tour is not available to wheelchair guests and is not considered suitable for those with mobility concerns. A jacket and flat, comfortable walking shoes are suggested. In the event of inclement weather conditions, this tour may not operate.
