Ports and Excursions of Mediterranean

Venice, Italy-port

This renowned “City of Canals” was built on an archipelago of more than 100 islands formed by about 150 canals. Ancient cobblestone streets lined with tiny ceramic and glass workshops and tempting cafes wind their way between fabulous palazzos and vast town squares along the banks of the canals. For shoppers, the city offers colorful markets; for those interested in architecture, the original Baroque classics, Basilica San Marco, the Rialto Bridge, the Doge’s Palace, and the Bridge of Sighs as viewed from a gondola or toured on foot, are breath-taking. And art lovers should make sure not to miss the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, home to Tintoretto’s finest works; or, for more modern tastes, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, showcasing masterpieces of 20th-century art currents and the avant-garde movements.

Duration: 3 hours

Tour Code: VCE-006

Your tour will depart from the pier by a private motor launch and cruise the Grand Canal, enjoying views of beautiful palaces and churches reflecting their facades on this major waterway. The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is housed in the unfinished Palazzo Venier dei Leoni which was Peggy Guggenheim's home for 30 years.

Today, her private collection includes favorite works of modernist movement artists such as Brancusi, De Chirio, Max Ernst, and Malevich. Your visit at the Guggenheim Museum will last approximately 90-minutes. Following your visit, you will re-board your private motor launch to complete your tour of the Grand Canal and return to the pier via Canale della Giudecca.

Please note: Guides will provide commentary on board the motor launch. This tour does not operate on Tuesdays.
