Puerto Montt, Chile-port

The first German colonists arrived to this area in 1852, and have remained to the present day, a small but influential percentage of the 130,000 inhabitants. The town spreads along a narrow seaboard and climbs the slopes enclosing it to the north. Since 1985, the city has experienced considerable growth and development, fueled by more than 30 salmon farms, in addition to forestry, fishing industries and service companies. A gateway to Chile’s picturesque lakes and spectacular indigo mountains.

Canopy Adventure At Osorno Volcano

Most Active or Strenuous Regent ChoiceMeal

Duration: 7 1/2 hours

Tour Code: PMT-435

Experience the Osomo Volcano's majestic beauty in an exhilarating new way during this memorable treetop canopy adventure.

Depart the pier for the drive north through Chile's famous Lake District, then on to the majestic Osorno Volcano, which towers more than 1.5 miles above sea level. The first platform of the canopy is located on the slopes of this volcano. The canopy consists of a series of platforms that are firmly built on the area's high treetops, and joined together by steel cables. Upon arrival, you will receive your safety and climbing instructions, then be outfitted with your equipment and harness before commencing your canopy adventure.

As you begin your exhilarating descent, you will feel the sensation of flying through the air. Along the way, you will take in the beauty of the surrounding landscapes, flora and fauna as you travel from tree-to-tree. The highlight of your excursion will be passing through an 820-foot crossing in Chucao Canyon. Here, you will see rocks more than 300 feet high and beautiful cascades. Upon reaching the Gran Coihue platform, you will take in a splendid view overlooking Lake Llanquihue; Chile's largest natural lake, and third-largest lake in South America. After crossing four more platforms, you will finally reach the base. The trees in this area are more than 130 feet high, and the maximum speed during the descent will be 27 miles per hour.

Following this thrilling adventure, you will re-board your coach and drive to Ensenada for a stop for lunch. On the return drive to Puerto Montt, a stop will be made in Puerto Varas to take pictures and purchase some goods at the local handicraft market.
