Ports and Excursions of South America

Ushuaia, Argentina-port

Here at the bottom of the world, mountains and sea come together like in no other place in America. Considered to be the world’s southernmost city (though that is up for a heated debate), Ushuaia is the capital of the Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego. The town itself has an interesting museum and a variety of shops selling everything from souvenirs to duty-free luxury items.

Four Wheel Drive Adventure

Moderate Activity/Walking Meal

Duration: 4 hours

Tour Code: USH-005

Enjoy a scenic drive to the Carbajal Valley, a glacier filled valley covered with peat and surrounded by impressive mountains. Begin the 4-wheel drive part of your adventure through an old trail, formerly used by ancient woodcutters to obtain wood for heating. The trail takes you through the intriguing Fuegian forest. Experience a close encounter with the flora and fauna of Tierra del Fuego. The tour ends at the refuge of the woodcutters, a small cabin which was used to shelter them from poor weather; here you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the surroundings. You will be in the center of several mountainous chains: the Vinciguerra, the Sorondo and the Alvear mountains.

Continuing on through your tour, your vehicle will climb the Andorra valley to reach the highest neighborhoods facing Ushuaia, from where the views of the city are memorable and breathtaking. A family house will open its doors for us to enjoy a typical lunch with local flavors, and once you have enjoyed your meal, take a trek of the refuge area for a 30 minutes easy hike before making your return trip to the ship.

Please note: This excursion travels through rough terrain and is not recommended for guests with back problems.
