Acapulco, Mexico-port

Acapulco, nicknamed "Pearl of the Pacific," is Mexico's most glamorous pacific resort. Located on a deep, semi-circular bay, Acapulco is located southwest of Mexico City. Few destinations can match its superb weather with an average of 360 days of sunshine per year and with temperatures comfortably in the 80s. Acapulco was important as a port city for Spanish galleons sailing between Spain and the Orient long before it was "discovered" as a vacation playground.

Acapulco Highlights & Cliff Divers

Light Activity

Duration: 4 hours

Tour Code: ACA-004

This outstanding tour gives a truly diverse look at this hugely popular and vibrant destination that was one of the first resort areas to be developed on Mexico's beautiful Pacific coast. The name Acapulco is believed to be derived from the ancient Nahuatl Indian words meaning, "Where the Reed Stood" or "Place of the Giant Reeds." After boarding your coach at the pier, you will take a scenic drive to "La Quebrada", the site where Acapulco's world famous cliff divers perform their heart-stopping dives off the high cliffs. From your vantage point at the landmark Hotel "El Mirador" you can watch the divers as they gracefully leap from a height of approximately 140 feet into the shallow and dangerous waters below. A complimentary cocktail or soda is provided and at the conclusion of the dive show, you'll be treated to a typical Mexican Folkloric show as well.

Re-boarding your coach, you'll travel back to the heart of the city via "Costera Miguel Aleman", the principle avenue in Acapulco that follows the curve of the magnificent bay and gives spectacular views to Acapulco's most famous beaches: Hornos, Hornitos and Tamarindos, all located in the zone known as Traditional Acapulco. A brief stop will be made at a local shopping area where you will have free time to browse for souvenirs and local handicrafts.

From here, you will next travel through Acapulco's other two zones, the Golden Zone and the Hotel Zone.

Attractive commercial centers and inviting bars and restaurants comprise the Golden Zone while the luxurious Hotel Zone is home to many impressive hotels, such as the Acapulco Diamond, the Acapulco Princess and the Mayan Palace. Before returning to the pier, it's a picturesque drive up to some of the most stunning panoramic viewpoints to be found in Acapulco. Photo stops are included so that you can take the opportunity to capture the incredible and magical vistas offered of the sparkling bay and Pacific Coast landscape.

Please note: This tour includes a moderate amount of walking, as well as some steps to negotiate. There are 70 steps at La Quebrada and there is a terrace for those guests in wheelchairs. Those with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. It is recommended that guests wear comfortable, flat walking shoes, light clothing, a hat and sun protection. The order of sights visited may vary.
