Costa Maya, Mexico-port

Costa Maya is the closest port of access to many of the lesser known Mayan ruins in the Yucatan including Chacchoben and Kohunlich. These sites are substantially less excavated than the better known pyramids near Cancun. The Mexican government is trying to improve the standard of living for the Indian population. The path chosen to do this in the Costa Maya area is to develop small-scale ecological based tourism destinations, including natural reserve parks.

Experience Mexico's rugged and picturesque coast in an exhilarating new way during this off-road expedition and beach break in Costa Maya.

After receiving your safety briefing, driving instructions, helmet and goggles, you will depart the pier in an automatic all-terrain vehicle for the drive to the wild and rugged jungle. Upon arrival, your guide will provide you with a safety briefing, off-road vehicle instructions, and helmets and goggles. Your guide will then lead you on the ride through the jungle where you will see exotic flora and fauna.

Next, you will exit the jungle for a scenic ride through Mexico's diverse topography, and along the Caribbean coast. You will then follow the spectacular blue-green waters to a secluded beach, where you will have approximately one hour to lie in the white sand, take a refreshing dip in the sea, or explore the beach. Weather permitting, you may wish to venture into the waters and do some snorkeling (equipment is provided).

Following your beach time, you will climb aboard a Kodiak truck and be driven back to the pier.

Please note: Guests must bring a valid driver's license, and be at least 18 years old to participate. As this tour involves travel over bumpy and dusty or muddy surfaces, guests with back and/or neck problems are discouraged from taking this tour. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilize a wheelchair. Only one guest is permitted per off-road vehicle. The maximum weight is 290 lbs. to participate on this tour. Guests are advised to wear close-toed shoes (not sandals), a swimsuit under a cover-up, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and insect repellent, and bring a towel and change of clothing from the ship. It is possible the tracks may be muddy and your clothing become soiled as a result. All guests must wear a helmet while riding on the all-terrain vehicle.
