Miami to Miami HEAVENLY SUNSETS 10 Nights Departs Jan 30, 2018 Seven Seas Explorer

  • The 700 islands of the Bahamas Islands begin 50 miles off the coast of Florida, stretching 760 miles to the southeast. The heritage of Old Nassau blends the Southern charm of British loyalists from the Carolinas, the African tribal traditions of freed slaves, and a bawdy history of blockade-running during the Civil War and rum-running in the Roaring 1920s. Over it all is a subtle layer of civility and sophistication, derived from three centuries of British rule.

The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 240 days before the cruise begins for guests receiving Concierge amenities, and 180 days before the cruise begins for all other guests. Guests receiving Concierge amenities will receive a 5% discount off of the prices shown below for Regent Choice tours.

  • Balmoral Island Dolphin Swim & Beach Day

This experience will be unlike any other dolphin interaction. When we say swim with the dolphins, we don’t mean stand around in a pool, we mean swim among dolphins!

  • Discover Nassau & Atlantis

Enjoy an enlightening introduction to the capital of the Bahamas from an historical and cultural perspective, with the option of spending free time at the famed Atlantis resort.

Meeting your driver/guide at the pier, you will then drive through the capital and cultural hub of the Bahamas, en route to Fort Fincastle. Built to resemble a paddle-wheel steamboat with a huge wedge-shaped bow, the fort has perched on a hilltop since 1793, protecting Nassau from invaders. Although it was never attacked, it still offers a fascinating glimpse into Nassau’s tumultuous history.

As a defense, the only access to the fort is the Queen’s Staircase, whose 66 steps were hand-cut through solid limestone. While strolling about the grounds, you will enjoy spectacular views as Fort Fincastle sits atop the island’s highest point. You will have plenty of time to take photos and purchase souvenirs before leaving.

Continuing on, you will next drive through the colorful shopping district on Bay Street and past the bustling Straw Market, Government House, and the Governor General’s official residence since 1801. Passing under the mid-19th-century arch on Market Street, you will then leave downtown Nassau and enter the suburbs.

Before long, you will cross the bridge over the harbor to Paradise Island, which was once called Hog Island. Now, it’s known for beautiful beaches and numerous resorts such as Atlantis where you will stop for a visit. Atlantis is a magnificent resort encompassing over 3,000 hotel rooms, 20 restaurants, a wide variety of stores, a 123-acre water park, beautiful beaches and the largest casino in the Bahamas.

After approximately 30-minutes, your bus will head back to the cruise ship pier; however, for those who wish to spend more time at Atlantis, a variety of options are available for purchase at the resort. Guests wishing to end their tour at Atlantis will need to arrange a taxi back to the cruise ship pier at their own expense. There are many taxis available at the resort and the approximate cost of the ride to the cruise ship pier is $5.00 per person. It is up to the guest to make sure they are back to the ship before sailing time. The Discover Atlantis Beach and Aquaventure Passes may be purchased directly at Atlantis and are subject to availability.

Please note: Walking on this tour is primarily at the guests’ discretion during the stops. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Light-weight clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; sunscreen; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Those who wish to purchase access to the water activities at Atlantis should bring a swimsuit and towel with them and guests purchasing additional options or participating in any water activities at Atlantis do so at their own risk and responsibility.

  • Charm and Beauty of the Bahamas

Admire landmark after landmark on an all-encompassing driving tour of Nassau and Paradise Island with stops at historical Fort Charlotte and the John Watlings Distillery.

After departing from the pier, you will settle in for a relaxing and informative driving tour past Nassau’s marquee attractions. The highlights include palm-dotted Rawson Square, lovely government buildings such as the Supreme Court and the pink-hued House of Assembly, and the mega-resort and theme park Atlantis on aptly named Paradise Island.

Nassau is exceptionally photogenic, so it’s no wonder that portions of three James Bond films have been shot here, as well as the Beatles’ movie “Help.” Other iconic sights include the Prime Minister’s residence, historical Graycliff Inn and Fort Charlotte, where you will pause for photos. Built in 1788, the fort features a waterless moat, dungeons, underground passageways and dozens of cannons that have never been fired in an act of aggression.

Continuing on, you will also visit a beautiful 18th-century estate downtown that is now home to a distillery named for buccaneer John Watling. The small-batch rum produced here is said to capture Watling’s bold spirit of adventure. You can determine that firsthand by sampling the different rums, which range from pale blonde with a crisp dry finish to reddish-gold with a soft warming finish. Following the rum tasting, you will return to the pier.

Please note: This tour is primarily panoramic in nature with limited, optional walking at the stops. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Light-weight clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; sunscreen; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. This tour includes a sample of the Distillery’s signature drink of the day. • Ardastra Gardens and Zoo

Stroll the shaded paths of the Ardastra Gardens and Zoo, admiring the lush tropical foliage and the zoo’s diversity of indigenous and regional animals.

After departing from the pier, you will soon pass several landmark buildings such as the House of Parliament and Supreme Court while your knowledgeable driver guide regales you with details and anecdotes about the sights you will be seeing. Soon, you will arrive at the serene Ardastra Gardens & Zoo. This four-acre oasis in the heart of downtown is a tropical paradise filled with exotic plants and home to hundreds of birds, reptiles and mammals.

As you walk along the winding paths, you will pass towering royal palms, tamarinds, Indian tulip trees, and West Indies mahoganies. Splashes of color from flora such as yellow elders, ixoras and delicately scented frangipanis add texture to the understory, leaving you with a great sense of tranquility. Even so, there is plenty of excitement within the gardens and zoo.

Peacocks often strut by fanning their tail feathers, bright green iguanas cling to the tree branches above, and the March of the Flamingos is a performance that never fails to entertain. Once nearly extinct, the Caribbean flamingo is now so popular and has been associated with the Bahamas for so long that it has become the national bird.

If you wish to interact with some of the animals up-close, you are welcome to pose for photos with "Toby" the Cockatoo, "Jackie" the Snake and "Freddy" the Peacock, or perhaps feed the lory parrots, also known as rainbow lorikeets. These birds are highly social, brightly colored and always eager to be hand-fed an apple. Before rejoining your bus for the transfer back to the pier, you will have the opportunity to purchase a cool beverage from the Parrot Pit Stop and browse through the eclectic gift shop, Toby's Treasures.

As an alternative to kayaking, you can try snorkeling, which offers yet another perspective to watch the colorful marine life swim by. Following approximately 1-hour in the water, you will return to the catamaran and enjoy a scenic trip back to the pier.
