Miami to Miami TROPICAL ESSENCE 10 Nights Departs Feb 09, 2018 Seven Seas Explorer

  • Cozumel is the largest inhabited island in Mexico, which lies just off the mainland. The coasts are known for large, breaking surf on the east side, and calmer waters for diving on the west side. In 1959, Jacques Cousteau discovered the beauty of Palancar, the coral reefs at the south of Cozumel and publicized it as one of the best places to go scuba diving in the world. Diving is still Cozumel's primary draw, mainly due to the healthy coral reef marine communities.

The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise, and may be reserved beginning 240 days before the cruise begins for guests receiving Concierge amenities, and 180 days before the cruise begins for all other guests. • Buggy & Snorkel At Punta Sur Park

Ride an open-air All Terrain Vehicle through the island's back roads to a secluded ecological reserve for a snorkeling adventure.

Depart from the pier for a quick trip to your vehicle, a Polaris RZR 800, a 4-seat "dune buggy" that makes the ride around Cozumel as adventurous as it is fun. Over the next hour or so, you'll drive down jungle roads and sand paths, taking in the spectacular natural beauty of the island. Chances are, you may see saltwater crocodiles lazing in the sun or lingering in the lagoon's still waters. Iguanas, flamingos and migratory birds are also commonly observed.

Upon reaching Punta Sur Park on the southernmost tip of Cozumel, you'll stop for photos at Celarain Lighthouse, which looms over the rocky shoreline. The views from the top of this whitewashed beacon are inspiring, as is its marine navigation museum. Nearby are the ruins of El Caracol, which is believed to be a lighthouse built by the Mayas 700 years ago.

Still, it's the beaches at Punta Sur Park that leave the most lasting impression. During the approximately two hours you'll spend along the shores of this 2,500-acre ecological reserve, you can snorkel, swim or simply relax. The serenity and sheer magnificence of the natural landscape are so mesmerizing that time seems to slow to a near standstill, the only interruption being the sound of the waves gently lapping the coastline. Following this tranquil respite at the beach, you'll retrace your path back to the pier.

Please note: Walking on this tour is mainly at the guests' discretion during the stops; however, there are natural, uneven and sandy surfaces to negotiate.
