Lima (Callao) to Buenos Aires JOURNEY TO TIERRA DEL FUEGO 21 Nights Departs Nov 16, 2019 Seven Seas Mariner

  • There is an old Chilean proverb that states, “If you are in a hurry in Patagonia, you are wasting your time.” In Puerto Chacabuco, a Chilean town in the Aysen commune, time passes at the leisurely pace of nature’s cycles. The gorgeously landscaped town is a small, isolated settlement situated along the wild-west fjordland coast. Patagonian ice sheets fall into the sea and the area provides a chance to view Black Necked Swans and the endangered Giant Condor.

As shore excursions to be offered in this port are not yet confirmed, below is a list of those offered previously. We make every effort to have excursions finalized at least 240 days in advance of sailing, and often sooner, so please check back regularly.

Cruise along a spectacularly scenic fjord to a series of outdoor hot springs, where you will soak in the therapeutic, mineral-rich waters to enhance your well-being.

After departing from the pier in a catamaran, you will soon enter the Aysen Fjord, one of the most magnificent waterways in the Chilean Patagonian glacier country. As you cruise past the steep narrow flanks of the fjord, you will behold the beauty and bounty of nature up close, affording you a unique perspective of this unspoiled wonderland.

In time, you will arrive at Ensenada Perez, a collection of pools naturally heated by the volcanically fueled hot springs. The setting is extraordinary, as the springs are open air, connected by footbridges and surrounded by fjords. This is nature at its finest.

  • Deer Island Adventure

Following a scenic boat ride to Deer Island, you will enjoy a leisurely walk along a nature trail in hopes of spotting the resident red deer, which are closely related to elk.

After departing from the pier, you will soon arrive at a boat launch for a short, but delightful cruise to Deer Island. Situated in the middle of a fjord by the outlet of the crystal-clear Aysen River, the forested island is a scenic wonder with a gorgeous backdrop of mountains and glaciers.

Upon disembarking, you will commence a guided walk along a nature trail. Openings in the vegetation will offer spectacular views of the surrounding fjord, and you may spot wildlife along the way. Birds are abundant, as are the island’s namesake red deer.

Despite their large size, ample number and limited range, the red deer are quite elusive. Known throughout North America and Europe as elk or by the Native American word “wapiti” (meaning “light-colored deer”), the red deer have keen senses of smell, hearing and vision.

They are unusually noisy creatures, and you may hear them grunting, squealing and roaring in a low pitch known as bugling. However, spotting one depends entirely on the day.

Regardless, walking through the woods will be invigorating and immensely picturesque. After nearly two hours on the trail, you will pause for a light snack and then retrace your route back to the pier in Puerto Chacabuco.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 2 hours of moderate to strenuous walking over natural and uneven surfaces. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with walking difficulties. Participants should be in good physical condition. Warm, layered clothing to include a rain coat; cap; and flat, sturdy walking/hiking shoes are recommended. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed.

  • Kayaking On Lake Los Palos

In this region of northern Patagonia there are dozens of small lakes and rivers, created by the phenomenon of the Andes Mountain Range plunging into the ocean. It is to one of these lakes that this tour travels, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the splendid nature that is Patagonia.

A short drive from Puerto Chacabuco brings you to Lake Los Palos where upon arrival you'll receive a short safety briefing and orientation. Outfitted with your life vest, you'll board your kayak and start off on your expedition, following an experienced local guide. Navigating upstream along the western shore of the lake, you'll travel northward to the Tabo River which feeds the lake. This is an area of calm, crystalline waters and as you paddle along, you'll be able to see the varied vegetation and the typical Patagonian birds that inhabit the area, such as the king fisher, eagles, ducks, caiquenes and others. After approximately thirty minutes of kayaking, you'll stop for a brief walk into the woods for a closer look at the unspoiled natural wonders of this area. Proceeding on, you'll come to a small island filled with lush native vegetation. In this perfect setting, you'll make a second stop to rest and enjoy a light snack.

Re-energized, you'll climb aboard your kayak one final time and begin your journey back to the starting point, where your van waits to transfer you back to the pier.

Please note: This tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. Guests should be in good physical condition. Comfortable clothes that are appropriate to the day's weather conditions should be worn and it is recommended that guests bring a change of clothes in the event of getting wet. • Fly Fishing Adventure in Patagonia

Fly fish for rainbow and brown trout in the Patagonian countryside, accompanied by a seasoned guide that will provide expert tips and local knowledge to enhance the experience.

After departing from the pier, you will enjoy a picturesque drive throughout the wilds of Patagonia, past the city of Puerto Aysen and on to Los Torreones Lodge. Known primarily as a fishing lodge, boutique-style Los Torreones sits on the banks of the Simpson River, which is loaded with big brown and rainbow trout.

Fishing is spectacular throughout this part of Patagonia. For the best possible experience, weather and water conditions will dictate exactly where you fish. You might fly fish the Simpson from the comfort of a Mackenzie drift boat, or if the nearby Manihuales or Aysen River appears more suitable, the guide may opt for one of those waterways. Other choices include magnificent Riesco Lake or a small stream that can only be fished with waders.

No matter which body of water you fish, your guide will provide the equipment and expert advice to ensure a memorable experience. The trout in this area typically range between 16 and 20 inches long and weigh 3 to 6 pounds.

Rainbow and brown trout were introduced to Chile in the early 1900s for sport fishing. Landing one is a thrill; landing a trophy trout is even more exhilarating.

After approximately three hours of fly fishing on one of the rivers or Riesco Lake, you will return to the pier.

Please note: Activity on this tour varies as it is dependent upon the fishing locations. Guests should be prepared for moderate conditions and the terrain will be natural and uneven. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with any mobility concerns. Participants should be in good physical condition. Warm, layered clothing to include a rain coat; cap; sunglasses; and flat, sturdy walking/hiking shoes are recommended. Mineral water, coffee and beer will be available but guests may wish to bring a snack from the ship. There are no restroom stops while on the water fishing. Although it is likely you will catch a fish, it is not guaranteed.
