Land Programs & Hotels

  • Experience the best of the Netherlands on this 4-day journey, combining Amsterdam's rich art and history with the scenic charm of the Dutch countryside where you will discover more traditional ways of life.

NOTE: This program does include moderate walking at the various stops.

    Day 1

After flying into Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, you will be met outside the customs and baggage claim area and transferred to your hotel in the city center by private vehicle.

    Hotel check-in time is 3:00pm.

Although we are not able to guarantee that rooms will be available before this time, luggage storage will be available at Reception so that you may begin exploring the city at your leisure or enjoy the facilities of the hotel. Should you have an early arriving flight, you may wish to book an extra night to ensure a room will be ready upon your arrival.

Depending on your arrival time, the afternoon and evening will be spent at leisure and all meals on this day are on your own.

Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky boasts the most sought-after location in the city centre, on Dam Square overlooking the Royal Palace, and a few minutes’ walk from the central railway station, and the museum and shopping districts. Some city center noise may be noticeable.

Note: A private van or SUV will be used to transfer couples or parties of two while solo travelers will transfer by private sedan. Vans hold a maximum of 4 pieces or large luggage and 2 carry on pieces per person and sedans hold a maximum of 2 large suitcases and a carry-on. Transfers are with driver only.

    Day 2

Your day starts with breakfast at the hotel, followed by a short coach transfer to the world-renowned Rijksmuseum which showcases Dutch art and history, featuring masterpieces like Rembrandt's The Night Watch. A private guide will lead you through the highlights of the museum during a 1,5-hour guided visit.

Afterwards, you will enjoy a short stroll to the canal boat pontoon, where a private saloon boat awaits you for a nearly two-hour cruise along Amsterdam’s canals.

After disembarking the boat, take a guided walk through the city center. This is followed by an afternoon at leisure. Perhaps linger over lunch, browse the shops, or explore other museums such as the Rembrandt house, Van Gogh Museum, the Hermitage or the Jewish Historical Museum.

    Day 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will enjoy a scenic coach drive into the Green Heart of Holland. In contrast to the urban atmosphere in Amsterdam, you can expect a more natural environment.

Enjoy a tranquil canal cruise through the Green Heart of Holland, during which you will get to taste some local Dutch delicacies and stop at a charming local windmill.

Continue to the historic town of Gouda, where you’ll have time to enjoy lunch at your leisure before a guided walk through the picturesque streets. Get a taste of some Gouda cheese at one of the many cheese stores. Delight in a hands-on Stroopwafel workshop to learn how to make this sweet snack and savor coffee or tea at a local bakery.

Return to your hotel enriched by the day’s unique experiences.

    Day 4

After breakfast, settle any incidentals and check out before departing for The Zaanse Schans, where you will step back in time. Zaanse Schans is a picturesque Dutch village famous for its iconic windmills, historic wooden houses, and artisan workshops. Discover traditional crafts like wooden clog making and cheese production, explore working windmills, and enjoy the charming views of the surrounding countryside.

Your guide will give a tour of the highlights and afterwards there is some free time to browse for last-minute souvenirs.

Your program concludes with a transfer to the port where you will embark the ship.

Special Note: Due to limited access at some sites, this program is not recommended for guests with extreme walking difficulty or for those who require the use of a wheelchair.

    DAY 1

Disembark the ship in Reykjavik, meet your guide and start out on a brief city tour en-route to your hotel.

Note: make sure to eat a hearty breakfast before your departure.

Begin with a drive to Perlan, a nature museum with a revolving observation deck that offers a stunning 360° view of Reykjavik.

Then, it’s off to the world’s only live lava show, a highly engaging experience that recreates a volcanic eruption by superheating real lava that slowly flows into a special area of the showroom. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity allows you to get so close to real molten lava that you can hear it sizzling and feel its intense heat.

Finally, transfer to your city-based hotel for check-in. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure with lunch and dinner on your own. The team at the Regent Seven Seas Hospitality desk will be glad to recommend further sightseeing and dining options.

Note: Described as a “stylish hotel in the heart of Reykjavik”, your hotel is a landmark building which has the perfect address for exploring the city sights. Although the rooms are comfortable, they are basic.

    DAY 2

After breakfast at the hotel meet your guide and depart for Þingvellir National Park, an attraction of great historical, geological and cultural significance. It is located in a rift valley where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet. The site is also where Iceland’s Parliament was founded in 930 AD. Thingvellir became Iceland’s first national park in 1930 and is home to Iceland’s largest natural lake, Thingvallavatn. Visit Öxarárfoss Waterfall.

Continuing, you will head for the Geysir geothermal area in Haukadalur Valley, home to the Geysir hot spring. Although Geysir doesn’t erupt often, it is surrounded by bubbling cauldrons of superheated mud, steaming pools and Strokkur, a geyser that erupts every 6-10 minutes. The geothermal activity at this popular destination is much like that happening all across and beneath Iceland that naturally powers countless hot tubs, swimming pools and greenhouses.

That same energy is used to bake bread underground at the aptly named Geothermal Bakery. After learning about the process, give it a try! You can slather on butter and top the bread with a piece of herring or trout. Note: The process of baking and extracting the bread from the ground is only done at certain times in the day. Seeing this process cannot be guaranteed.

You will next visit Gullfoss Waterfalls, whose name comes from the golden color of its water as it churns up silt and sediment. These magnificent waterfalls in the Hvitá River are fed by Langjökull, Iceland’s second largest glacier. The cascades are more than 100 feet high and fall in two tiers making for a magnificent sight. If not for the tenacity of a local environmental activist, Gullfoss would have been covered by the waters of a proposed hydroelectric dam.

After lunch at a local restaurant, visit Friðheimar Farm which offers a horse show called Meeting with the Icelandic Horse. The show gives you an insight into the story of this remarkable horse breed which was brought to Iceland by the first settlers from Scandinavia around 900 AD. The Icelandic horse is small, sturdy breed, famed for its five gaits: in addition to the walk, trot and gallop, Icelandic horses have the tölt (a smooth run) and skeið (flying pace).

Finally, you will see Kerið, a volcanic crater lake located in the Grímsnes area that is one of the most visually stunning geological wonders in the country. This vibrant blue gem, which is part of the Western Volcanic Zone that includes the Reykjanes peninsula and the Langjökull Glacier, is it one of the three most recognizable volcanic craters in Iceland because of its unique red rock.

Once you return to the hotel, the remainder of the day will be at your leisure with dinner on your own.

    DAY 3

After breakfast at the hotel, you will depart for a full day of touring South Iceland. While traveling through a mountain pass and into fertile farmland, you will enjoy astonishing views of the countryside, especially along this section of the Ring Road, which is flanked by rugged mountains, glittering glaciers and towering volcanoes.

A comfort stop will be made at LAVA Center where you will see a short educational movie about volcanic activity that reveals the lava theme that is an integral part of Iceland especially now with the active eruption near Grindavik.

Depending on the weather conditions, you may see Eyjafjallajökull, the site of a volcanic eruption in 2010 that was so enormous that its ash cloud halted Europe’s air traffic for several days.

Behold the beauty of Seljalandsfoss waterfall as it tumbles off Eyjafjallajökull Glacier into a deep pool below. If you don’t mind getting wet, you can walk behind the cascade to see it from the other side.

Just before lunch an exterior visit is made at Vik Church, famous for its postcard views and after lunch you will stroll along the black volcanic sand beach at Reynisfjara. The basalt sea stacks rising out of the water there are absolutely spectacular.

From a distance, view Sólheimajökull Glacier, a glacier tongue of Mýrdalsjökull – the 4th largest glacier in Iceland and then visit Skógafoss Waterfall, one of the largest waterfalls in the country. Due to the amount of spray the waterfall consistently produces, a single or double rainbow is frequently seen on sunny days.

Upon returning to the hotel, the remainder of the day will be at your leisure with dinner on your own.

    DAY 4

After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you are transferred to Keflavík International Airport for your flight. Transfers will be set up according to the flight details provided. Luggage storage is available at the hotel for guests with later flights. Check out time at the hotel is at 12:00pm.

Land Program Details Step by Step:

•Please note: The order of sites visited may vary to avoid congestion. All program timings are approximate, given here for general reference purposes and subject to change.

    Transfers:

•All guests booking their flights independently are required to ensure the cruise line has their most up to date flight details so that transfers to the airport can be arranged. If flight details are not received 14 days before your cruise start date, transfers will not be arranged.

    Dietary Requirements

If guests have any food intolerance, allergies or vegetarian requirements, please advise RSSC no later than 75 days before sailing to be added to your land program booking extension. Any requests made after this time, may not be able to be accommodated at the restaurants.

    Expected Weather

The weather in Reykjavik averages around 54 F (12 C) in summer. Iceland's summer starts in late May or early June and lasts through August. The midnight sun appears, meaning the days are incredibly long. The longest days last close to 21 hours until the sun sets.

    Access:

Due to limited access as various sites, this program is not recommended for guests with extreme walking difficulty or for those who require the use of a wheelchair. Should guests participate with a wheelchair, they must have someone to push the chair as guides are not able to take on this task.

    Sites with limitations:

Geysir bread experience: The site is located on a small hill with no vehicle access. Guests must walk a few meters but there is no pathway and the gate is narrow so a wheelchair will not fit through.

    Kerid crater: Not accessible

Seljalandsfoss: Accessible only until the observation bridge

Black sand beach: Gravel parking area

Solheimajokull: Not accessible and glacier cannot be seen from the parking area

    Skogafoss: Gravel walking path

    What to Bring

Warm clothing, comfortable shoes, sunglasses, camera and a waterproof jacket with hood. We would highly recommend layered clothing, waterproof and windproof jackets or raincoats. Umbrellas will not go as there might be strong winds.

    Local Currency

    Icelandic krona (ISK).

Euro/Mastercard and Visa credit and debit cards are widely used. In larger towns and airports, it is easy to withdraw cash through ATMs (cash machines). Many places (restaurants, bars, tourist attractions) will take US dollars, Canadian dollars and Euros. It is important to mention, that any money given back after payment in US, Canadian Dollars or Euros, will be in ISK.

    Electricity

Type C, F sockets, Voltage: 230V. We recommend bringing a universal travel adaptor for electric devices.

    Documents and Visa Requirements

A passport that is valid at least 6 months after travel.

Please check with your local embassy for any visa requirements for your nationality into Iceland.

Iceland is in the Schengen visa zone. US citizens do not require a visa to enter Europe.

The above information is subject to change and serves as a guide only. It is the ultimate and sole responsibility of the guest to ensure they meet the entry requirements for each destination.

If traveling internationally, the countries you are flying to and/or connecting through may have different document requirements and as such we encourage you to visit the government and airport websites of every country you will be traveling to throughout the journey to familiarize yourself with their requirements.

However, each program varies, and participants should be prepared to negotiate a mixture of surfaces which may include inclines, cobblestones, sand, gravel and natural paths. Guests who utilize a wheelchair and those with mobility concerns are advised to check with the cruise line in advance to see if any portion of the tour program may not be considered suitable for their individual situation.

    Special Notes:

This program involves walking at times over uneven and/or icy ground and some sites have limited access. As such, this program is not recommended for guests with walking difficulty or for those who require the use of a wheelchair, walker, or cane.

As part of our commitment to providing you with an authentic dining experience, we want to let you know that some of the included meals may feature fish as either an appetizer or main course, since fish is a staple in the Icelandic diet.

If you have any food intolerances or special dietary needs, please inform us prior to your departure for review by our local vendors. It is important that your land program extension reflects these details to ensure a smooth and enjoyable dining experience. Unfortunately, we are unable to make changes to the menu on the day of the meal, so advance notice is essential.

    DAY 1

Disembark the ship in Reykjavik, meet your guide, and then begin the picturesque drive to the south coast of Iceland.

Feel the power of nature at the Lava Show and enjoy a hearty lunch in the small town of Vík and then observe the power of the sea and stunning rock formations at the Black Beach.

Witness the majestic beauty of the flowing waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss followed by a visit to the Skogar Folk Museum where you will explore exhibits showcasing life, culture, technology, and architecture in rural Iceland in the 19th century.

Arrive at your hotel and check in and then enjoy a group dinner at the hotel before retiring for the evening.

    DAY 2

After breakfast and check out, meet your guide, and depart for a tour along the Golden Circle.

During this full day journey, you will make a stop at the Geysir geothermal area to watch Strokkur, an explosive geyser, which erupts every few minutes, and approximately 15-20 meters up in the air.

Enjoy lunch at the Geysir Restaurant before boarding Sleipnir, the one-of-a-kind monster glacier truck, which will take you on a ride on Langjökull Glacier. There you will have the option of playing golf and sipping on hot chocolate, tea or pure glacier water while enjoying Icelandic pastries in a scenic spot with stunning views.

Coming off the glacier, next up is Gullfoss, the “Golden Waterfall” one of the most famed waterfalls in the country. Should you wish, take a dip in the peaceful Laugarás Lagoon, nestled among mountains and a whitewash river. (Wear your bathing suit, towels will be provided).

The last stop en route to the capital of Reykjavik is Thingvellir National Park which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site situated in a rift valley showcasing the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Here enjoy a 15-minute photo stop at Hakið viewing platform which is a short walk from the parking area.

Arriving in Reykjavik you will check in to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure with dinner on your own.

    DAY 3

After breakfast and check out, meet your guide, and proceed to the rough and rugged Reykjanes Peninsula.

The first stop will be at Lake Kleifarvatn, renowned for its beauty and geological activity. Close by is the colorful Seltún geothermal area, with boiling mud pools and steaming hot springs. Here you will have a thirty-minute stop for photos and short walking tour of the area.

Next, the world-famous Blue Lagoon awaits you with a unique bathing experience and lunch at Lava Restaurant.

Included is entrance to the Blue Lagoon, a silica mud mask, towel, 1 drink at the lagoon bar and a two-course lunch with one drink at Lava Restaurant after your Blue Lagoon visit. There are lounges and a bar where guests can relax if not bathing. Swimwear is required. Towels will be provided and bathrobes are available for rent.

Following a relaxing swim in the hot waters of the Blue Lagoon, proceed to the lava-scarred Reykjanes peninsula which lies on one of the world's major plate boundaries, the Mid Atlantic Ridge.

Stop at the Bridge Between Continents, a small footbridge over a major fissure which provides clear evidence of the presence of a diverging plate margin. The bridge was built as a symbol for the connection between Europe and North America.

Continue to the picturesque Gardskagaviti Lighthouse which sits on the toe of the peninsula, originally built in 1897 by Danish authorities. Just a stone throw away is the replacement lighthouse, built in the independence year of 1944.

Your final stop for the day is at the Viking World Museum which is home to the authentic 9th-century Viking ship, the Icelander. The museum has five independent exhibitions about the Viking Age, including a Smithsonian exhibition about the Vikings of the North Atlantic.

Following the visit to the museum, proceed to your hotel where you will check in. The remainder of the day is at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

    DAY 4

Following breakfast at the hotel, settle any incidentals and check out. Your transfer to Keflavik International Airport will be 2.5 hours prior to your flight. Please ensure that we receive your flight details so that transfers can be arranged appropriately.

Check-out time at the hotel is 11:00am. Should you have a late flight, luggage storage is available at Reception until your transfer.

    Extra Nights:

•All extra nights booked through the cruise line are confirmed at the same hotel used on the LAST NIGHT of your program.

•When you book extra nights through the cruise line, you will be transferred to the airport per the flight details provided. Check-out time is 11:00am (subject to change).

•Meals other than breakfast are on your own after Day 4 of your program.

    What to Bring:

Warm layered clothing such as thermals, fleece and a good jacket, bathing suit, good sturdy shoes, medicines, hat, sunscreen, camera, chargers.

    Local Currency:

Local currency is Icelandic Krona. However, many companies accept EUR, GBP, and USD bills only, no coins and change is given back in ISK.

    Electricity

European standard 220 Volts. We recommend bringing your own travel adaptor for electric devices.

    Luggage information

Luggage will accompany the group. Although staying in the best hotels in the area, porterage service is not a standard service in Icelandic hotels. Very few hotels in Iceland have porterage staff full time and if they do it is normally 1 porter. As a result, you could experience a delay in delivering your luggage to your room depending on the size of the group. You may prefer to take your suitcase with you to your rooms.

For guests who use a CPAP breathing machine:

Many hotels do not readily provide distilled water. While we can request this for you, we cannot guarantee that it will be available. Some hotels charge for this and if so, it will be added to your hotel incidental charges to be paid upon check out.

Due to Iceland’s extremely clean, low-mineral water that comes from naturally filtrated sources, it is safe to use tap water and bottled water for CPAP machines without any issues for short-term use.

Distilled water can be purchased at pharmacies.

    Documents and Visa Requirements:

A passport that is valid for at least 6 months after travel is required.

Please check with your local embassy for any visa requirements for your nationality.

The above information is subject to change and serves as a guide only. We would like to take this opportunity to remind all of our guests that it is the ultimate and sole responsibility of the guest to ensure they meet the entry requirements for each destination.

If traveling internationally, the countries you are flying to and/ or connecting through may have different document requirements and as such we encourage you to visit the government and airport websites of every country you will be traveling to throughout the journey to familiarize yourself with their requirements.
