Uncover the wonders of ancient Egypt on this immersive two-day journey from Safaga to Luxor. Experience legendary temples, magnificent tombs, and captivating artifacts, all brought to life by expert guides. From the iconic Karnak and Luxor Temples to the breathtaking Valley of the Kings and a scenic Nile cruise, this adventure blends history, culture, and unforgettable moments for the ultimate Egyptian experience.
NOTES:
•There are a series of steps (up to 20 steps per chamber) to go down into the various tombs and the ground surrounding the tombs is uneven and dusty. It is also extremely hot here.
•Due to the extensive walking over uneven ground, this program is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties or for those who require a wheelchair.
Day 1
You will be met after disembarking in Safaga to begin the scenic 3.5-hour drive to Luxor, a city renowned for its ancient monuments and rich history. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch before visiting Karnak Temple, one of Egypt’s most extraordinary archaeological sites.
Located approximately two miles north of Luxor Temple and connected to it by an avenue lined with sphinxes, Karnak Temple was the most important religious site in ancient Egypt. Over the course of 2,000 years, successive pharaohs expanded the complex, each leaving behind architectural contributions that reflect the evolving styles and beliefs of their time.
Your visit to Karnak Temple begins at the grand entrance built during the Ptolemaic period. From there, you’ll pass towering statues of Ramses II and enter the Hypostyle Hall—a vast space supported by 134 massive columns, some still bearing traces of their original paint.
As you continue through a series of courtyards and gateways, you’ll see Queen Hatshepsut’s impressive obelisk, carved from a single block of pink granite, and eventually reach the temple’s oldest section, dating back to around 2000 B.C. and built by the Pharoh’s of the Middle Kingdom.
At the southern end of the temple lies the sacred lake, where ceremonial boats once took part in rituals honoring the god Amon.
Following your visit to Karnak Temple, continue to Luxor Temple, located in the heart of the city. Originally constructed during the reign of Amenophis III, the temple was later expanded by Ramses II, who added statues of himself and two obelisks to its entrance. Today, only one of the obelisks remains; the other was gifted to France by Mohamed Ali in 1831 and now stands at the Place de la Concorde in Paris.
Over the centuries, Luxor Temple saw additions from various rulers and cultures. Alexander the Great rebuilt the sanctuary in the 4th century B.C., the Romans subsequently rebuilt portions of the temple, and a mosque was later constructed within the temple grounds, reflecting the site’s continued significance through time.
Next, you will transfer to your hotel for check-in. Later, depart for the Luxor Museum, beautifully situated along the east bank of the Nile River.
This thoughtfully curated museum showcases a remarkable collection of artifacts from across ancient Egypt. Exhibits range from finely crafted pharaonic art to everyday objects such as pottery, tools, and jewelry. Including items that were discovered in the temples and tombs of the Theban region, offering insight into both the ceremonial and domestic aspects of ancient Egyptian life.
Back at your hotel, enjoy a buffet dinner before retiring for the evening.
DAY 2
Following a morning buffet breakfast, you will cross the Nile to the west bank to visit the Valley of the Kings, hidden in the foothills of the Gourma Mountains. This arid valley served as the royal necropolis for centuries, and more than 60 tombs of pharaohs and noblemen have been excavated here.
Inside, the kings’ formal names and titles are inscribed on the walls, accompanied by painted scenes and statues. These richly decorated chambers offer a glimpse into the rituals and symbolism of ancient Egyptian burial practices. Between the 18th and 20th dynasties, the kings abandoned the Memphis area and began building their tombs in Thebes.
Enjoy a special visit to the tomb of Seti I, the longest and one of the most beautifully preserved tombs in the Valley of the Kings. Still recognized as a masterpiece from the time of Seti I and his son, Ramesses II, the tomb features elaborate decorations that bring ancient Egypt vividly to life.
Next, visit the tomb of King Tutankhamun, where his mummy remains on display. If time permits, you may also have the opportunity to view one or two additional tombs in the area.
Continuing on, enjoy a photo stop at the Temple of Hatshepsut, one of the most striking monuments on the west bank. Its unique design features a series of grand terraces that rise up against the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari, with rows of square granite columns blending into the surrounding mountainside. Built to honor Egypt’s first female pharaoh, the temple stands as a testament to her legacy.
From there, you will proceed to Habu Temple, a stunning mortuary temple of Pharaoh Ramses III, renowned for its massive pylons, vibrant wall reliefs, and well-preserved inscriptions depicting ancient battles and religious rituals. A remarkable window into the grandeur of New Kingdom Egypt, it offers visitors a journey through history carved in stone.
NOTES:
•There are a series of steps (up to 20 steps per chamber) to go down into the various tombs and the ground surrounding the tombs is uneven and dusty. It is also extremely hot here.
•Mobile phones, cameras, and video equipment are not permitted inside the tombs of Seti I and Tutankhamun
•Mobile phones are allowed and free of charge inside other tombs in the valley.
Next, a photo stop will be made at the Colossi of Memnon, two towering statues that once stood at the entrance of a mortuary temple built for Pharaoh Amenhotep III. Though the temple itself has long since vanished, the statues remain—each rising 75 feet high and weighing over 1,000 tons. Despite centuries of weathering and damage, including from ancient visitors, the statues continue to impress with their scale and presence.

NOTE:
•Due to the extensive walking over uneven ground, this program is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties or for those who require use of a wheelchair or scooter.
Day 1
Disembark in Safaga and begin the scenic 3.5-hour drive to Luxor, a city renowned for its ancient monuments and rich history. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch before visiting Karnak Temple, one of Egypt’s most extraordinary archaeological sites.
Located approximately two miles north of Luxor Temple and connected to it by an avenue lined with sphinxes, Karnak was the most important religious site in ancient Egypt.
Following your visit to the Luxor Temple, you will be transferred to your hotel for check-in. A bit later, you may choose to experience a unique sound and light show back at the Karnak Temple. After the show return to your hotel for a buffet dinner. For those who opt to skip the show, dinner will be available instead.
DAY 2
Following a morning buffet breakfast, you will cross the Nile to the west bank to visit the Valley of the Kings, hidden in the foothills of the Gourma Mountains.
Enjoy visits in up to three tombs. The specific tombs visited will be selected by your guide based on availability and current openings at the time of your visit.
Continuing on, stop for a visit to the Temple of Hatshepsut, one of the most striking monuments on the west bank. Its unique design features a series of grand terraces that rise up against the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari, with rows of square granite columns blending into the surrounding mountainside. Built to honor Egypt’s first female pharaoh, the temple stands as a testament to her legacy.
From here, continue to Medinet Habu, one of the most impressive and historically significant temples on the west bank. Built by Ramses III, the temple served as a mortuary complex and is among the most fascinating of the funerary chapels in the region.
The entrance is flanked by detailed reliefs depicting Ramses III in battle, including scenes of the king striking down enemies and standing before 86 captured figures. On the north side of the doorway, inscriptions recount his military campaigns, including a vivid account of his victory over the Libyans.
Following your visit to the Colossi of Memnon, you will return to your hotel for a buffet lunch. After lunch, check out and begin the 3.5-hour drive back to Safaga. Upon arrival, proceed to the pier and reboard your ship.
Note: Mobile phones and cameras are allowed and free of charge inside most tombs in the valley. There are a series of steps (up to 20 steps per chamber) to go down into the various tombs and the ground surrounding the tombs is uneven and dusty. It is also extremely hot here.

Set off on an unforgettable journey through Egypt’s legendary past. Arrive in Luxor, known as the world’s greatest open-air museum, where you’ll discover awe-inspiring temples and tombs from antiquity. The adventure continues in Cairo, Africa’s largest city, with visits to the renowned Grand Egyptian Museum and the iconic Pyramids of Giza—the last of the ancient wonders—alongside the timeless Sphinx.
Special Notes:
•Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below about airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.
•This program involves extensive walking over uneven ground and is thus not suitable for guests with walking difficulties or for those who require a wheelchair or scooter.
Day 1
Disembark the ship in Safaga and begin the 3.5-hour drive to Luxor. Upon arrival, a stop will be made for lunch before continuing across the Nile River to the west bank for a visit to the Valley of the Kings.
Hidden in the foothills of the Gourma Mountains, this desert valley is home to the remarkable tombs of Egypt’s ancient kings, their families, and other members of the nobility. More than 60 tombs have been excavated here, each offering insight into the beliefs and burial practices of the New Kingdom. Ample time is allotted to explore the site at your own pace.
Enjoy a short photo stop at the Temple of Hatshepsut, a striking mortuary temple built into the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari. Buried under sand for centuries, the temple was commissioned by Hatshepsut—the only woman to rule Egypt as pharaoh—and features a series of grand terraces and square granite columns that blend seamlessly with the surrounding mountainside.
A second photo stop follows at the Colossi of Memnon, two massive stone statues that once flanked the entrance to the mortuary temple of Amenhotep III. Although the temple itself was destroyed by an earthquake and little remains of its original structure, the statues continue to stand guard over the site, offering a powerful glimpse into Egypt’s monumental past.
Next, visit Luxor Temple, a breathtaking monument that has stood at the heart of the city for more than three millennia. Originally commissioned by Amenhotep III and later expanded by Ramses II, the temple was designed to honor the divine rulers of Egypt and the sacred rituals of kingship. Ramses II added colossal statues of himself and two towering obelisks to the entrance, though today, only one remains in place. The second was gifted to France in 1831 and now stands in the Place de la Concorde in Paris.
Over the centuries, the temple continued to evolve. Alexander the Great rebuilt the sanctuary in the 4th century B.C., and later, portions were reconstructed under Roman rule. A mosque was eventually built within the complex, reflecting the temple’s enduring significance across cultures and eras.
Following your visit to the Luxor Temple, you will be transferred to your hotel for check-in.
In the evening, enjoy a buffet dinner at your hotel.
DAY 2
After an early wake-up call, breakfast boxes will be provided by the hotel prior to departing for the Luxor Airport. From here, you will board a flight to Cairo, with a flight time of approximately 60 minutes.
Upon arrival in Cairo, recognized as the largest city in Africa and the Middle East, you will be transferred to a deluxe hotel for a buffet breakfast. Following breakfast, the day’s touring will begin.
Your first visit of the day will be to the Grand Egyptian Museum, considered to be the largest archeological museum in Africa and the Middle East, where the world’s most important pieces of Egypt’s ancient history are on display.
Spanning approximately 500,000 square meters, it houses over 100,000 artifacts showcasing Egypt's rich history. GEM's galleries offer a chronological journey through 3,000 years of Egyptian history, with exhibits from the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms.
One of the highlights of your visit will be King Tutankhamen exhibition hall where the full collection of the Boy King are displayed in one place.
After your museum visit, continue to one of the most iconic sites in all of Egypt—the Pyramids of Giza. These monumental structures, built over 4,500 years ago, are the only remaining wonder of the Ancient World. Nearby stands the enigmatic Sphinx.
The Giza Plateau is home to three major pyramids, each built as a royal tomb by the pharaohs Cheops, his son Chephren, and Chephren’s son Mykerinus. These monumental structures were designed to house their mummified remains and support their journey to the afterlife. Located within the greater Cairo area, the pyramids remain a powerful symbol of ancient Egypt’s engineering mastery and spiritual beliefs.
Situated in front of the Pyramid of Chephren stands the legendary Great Sphinx, guardian of the Giza Plateau. This monumental statue, with the body of a lion and the head of a human, was carved from a single piece of bedrock and remains one of the most iconic symbols of ancient Egypt. Its imposing presence has inspired awe for millennia and is considered a national emblem of both Ancient and Modern Egypt.
At each site you will have ample time to walk around and take photos although no inside visits are permitted. Please be aware that there will be vendors selling merchandise and camel rides which you can do but are at your own risk.
Lunch will be in a deluxe restaurant prior to the drive back to the airport for a flight to Hurghada. Once you have arrived you will be met and transferred to Safaga where you will re-board the ship.

Behold the most revealing landmarks around Cairo and come away with a greater understanding of Egypt’s storied past. Few experiences are quite so mesmerizing as standing before the Great Pyramid of Giza – the sole remaining Wonder of the Ancient World – and the colossal Sphinx in its shadow. A look at the Citadel fortress and a 14th-century bazaar add more intrigue, while the treasures of King Tut are showcased within the Grand Egyptian Museum. The deeper you delve into Egypt’s history, the more captivating it becomes.
Please Note:
This program includes prolonged activity, negotiating a mixture of surfaces which may include inclines, cobblestones, sand and gravel or natural paths. There may also be a need to climb steps or stairs on occasion. This program is not recommended for guests who have mobility concerns or require use of a wheelchair or scooter.
DAY 1
Upon disembarking the ship in Safaga, you will be met and transferred to the Hurghada airport for the flight to Cairo. Eat a hearty breakfast before departing.
Upon landing in Cairo, begin your day with a delicious lunch at Khan El-Khalili Market, one of the city’s most famous bazaars. After lunch, browse Khan El-Khalili, an open-air bazaar, considered to be the major center of trade in old times and has remained relatively unchanged since the 14th century. This is considered one of the largest souks in the world and may seem familiar as it has influenced countless espionage books, movies and TV shows. It has the greatest variety of artistic goods for sale in Cairo.
During some free time here, enjoy exploring the fascinating maze of alleyways and workshops, where you can observe artisans at work or try your skills at bartering and perhaps pick up a memento of your Egyptian journey.
Later in the afternoon, you will visit a medieval Islamic fortress known simply as The Citadel and the adjacent Mosque of Muhammad Ali, which is also referred to as the Alabaster Mosque due to the extensive use of alabaster stone on some of the exterior walls and other surfaces. The mosque, the largest such structure built during the first half of the 19th century, is more impressive at a distance than close up. Though its artistic merit is questionable, the mosque is an unparalleled contribution to the Cairo skyline. Situated on the summit of the Citadel high atop the Citadel grounds, its great dome and towering minarets are the first features that catch your eye at the fortress.
Afterwards, you will transfer to the Four Seasons First Residence for check-in. Dinner will be served at the hotel, and the remainder of the day will be at your leisure.
DAY 2
Following an early-morning breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will drive to the Step Pyramid of Sakkara, which overlooks Djoser’s mortuary complex. Dating from 2700 BC, the Step Pyramid is the oldest stone structure in the world and was designed by Imhotep for King Djoser. The complex also contains 16 other pyramids in various stages of preservation.
Because the necropolis complex was buried beneath the sands for much of the past two millennia, even the sizable mortuary surrounding Djoser’s pyramid was not unearthed until 1924. As a result, many of the mastaba tombs have been superbly preserved with both their structures and lavish interior decorations intact.
You will then travel to the legendary Great Pyramid of Giza, the sole remaining Wonder of the Ancient World. Built as a royal tomb for Cheops, it is the largest of a group of three pyramids. The other two pyramids were constructed to hold the mummified remains of the pharaoh’s son and successor Chephren and Chephren’s son, Mykerinus.
Southeast of the Great Pyramid stands the Sphinx, the monument of a mythical creature with the head of a man and the body of a lion. It was carved out of solid limestone around 2650 BC and faces east, probably to greet the rising sun and the return of life each day. Your tour of the Pyramids area also includes panoramic views and photo opportunities of the three Pyramids and the Sphinx.
Following lunch at a nearby restaurant, you will visit the Grand Egyptian Museum, the world’s largest archaeological museum. Here, the most important pieces of Egypt’s ancient history are on display. One of the highlights of your visit will be the King Tutankhamen exhibition hall where the full collection of the Boy King are displayed in one place.
After this enlightening experience, you will transfer to the Cairo airport for the return flight to Hurghada. Upon arrival, you will return to the port of Safaga and re-board the ship.

Carriage of Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines on internal flights per airline regulations (subject to change as each airline has their own regulations)
1.Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC) - Guests must obtain a Doctor’s Certificate mentioning their medical condition and the need to carry a POC. Further paperwork may be required by the airline. Please advise RSSC of the specifics at least 14 days before sailing.
2.CPAP Machine NOT being used in flight – please advise RSSC at least 95 days before the program starts if you will bring a CPAP on the internal flight(s) used in this land program. Please supply the make, model and battery type.
3.CPAP Machine to be used during flight – same as above + a doctor’s note is required mentioning the need to use the machine during flight.
*Guests are required to bring with them any details from the manufacturer regarding the CPAP specifications. While most modern CPAP machines are FAA-approved for in-flight use, having a copy of your manufacturer’s FAA-approval status will help to quickly clear any confusion that may arise.
* Not providing the above details in a timely manner may result in a denial of this equipment at the airport for which Regent Seven Seas Cruises nor our local ground operator will be responsible for.
*Some hotels do not provide distilled water. While we can certainly request this for you, we cannot guarantee that it will be available. If received in a timely manner, requests will be sent on the final manifest that our ground operators and hotels receive. We highly recommend packing your own supply, especially on programs that travel to more remote locations in order to avoid not having it. Please keep in mind the rule for liquids in carry-on bags. Many hotels will charge for distilled water. If there is a fee, this will be added to your hotel incidental account to be paid at check-out. Fees will vary from hotel to hotel.
