The Amazon Delivers

...the distance from New York City to Rome — and is the world’s largest (by volume). Its westernmost source is high in the Andes Mountains, within 100 miles of the Pacific Ocean, and it empties into the Atlantic on the northeastern coast of Brazil.

The expansive Amazon Basin is the largest drainage system in the world and covers an area of approximately 2.7 million square miles. It stretches over 1,700 miles from north to south and includes most of Brazil and Peru, parts of Colombia, Ecuador, and Bolivia, and a small area of Venezuela.
