  • Pisco is the largest port between Callao and Matarani, Peru. There are two parts of town: Pisco Pueblo with its colonial-style homes; and Pisco Puerto, which, apart from fisheries, has been replaced as a port by the deep-water Puerto General San Martin. This area was also home of the Paracas culture, and in August 1820, the great liberator General San Martin landed on its coast, marking Pisco as the birthplace of Peru’s struggle for independence.

As shore excursions to be offered in this port are not yet confirmed, below is a list of those offered previously. We make every effort to have excursions finalized at least 240 days in advance of sailing, and often sooner, so please check back regularly.

  • The Paracas National Reserve

The National Reserve of Paracas is one of the most important protected areas of Peru. Its conservation is fundamental for the protection of the coastal-marine biodiversity. The Reserve protects a part of the coastal desert of the subtropical Pacific and waters of the Humboldt Current, which is characterized by one of the highest levels of productivity in the world because of the coastal upwelling. We explore it by taking a panoramic drive through the park, interspersed with photo stops to check out the best views along the way.

The Paracas National Reserve presents one of the most beautiful desert scenarios of the Peruvian coasts. The numerous desert mountains change their colors each day from different tones of yellow to pinkish-reds. The coastal cliffs offering scenaric attractions like the famous "Cathedral" (la Catedral), an impressive rock arch which collapsed during the 2007 earthquake, but is still impressive to see. Another impressive sight is the "monk" – a stone pillar located on a small rocky outcrop in the sea . Many species find refuge here such as seals and sea lions, Humboldt penguins, sea otters, dolphins and porpoises, and more than a hundred species of seabirds, both resident and migratory. Some of the latter are the Andean condor, flamingoes, cormorants, blue-footed boobies and pelicans. However, please keep in mind that the reserve spans a large area, and there are no guarantees that birds or other wildlife will be visible from the route.

  • Beach Yoga in Paracas National Reserve

Take in the remarkable biodiversity in Peru’s oldest marine reserve, an unusual landscape of sweeping desert right to the ocean’s edge, where you will practice yoga on the beach.

After departing from the pier, you will head south along the scenic coastline, soon arriving at the Paracas National Reserve. Established in 1975, the protected parkland features a subtropical landscape marked by an abundance of archaeological sites, erosion-carved cliffs, and a vast desert that stretches to the sea. The terrain is bleak yet hauntingly beautiful, as you will discover while pausing at various viewpoints.

Along the way, the guide will impart fascinating facts about the area’s earliest inhabitants and the flora and fauna that flourish here. In this wonderfully stark setting, you can expect to see cacti, scrubland, heat-tolerant herb of grace and bulrush, a plant often used for woven mats.

You might also catch sight of sea lions, migratory birds and Humboldt penguins. These banded penguins are excellent climbers, and you may spot them jumping along the rocky shoreline and using their flippers for balance. Later, on the trail to a sheltered bay, you may find scarlet and white flamingos, the inspiration for the colors of the Peruvian flag.

Upon reaching the beach, you will enjoy a relaxing yoga class, an experience enhancing by the breaking waves, gentle sea breezes and sounds of nature. Be sure to look beyond the surf for bottlenose dolphin and perhaps otters. Afterwards, you will return to the pier.

Tello, under the Paracas desert in 1925, a small collection of weavings is also on display.

  • Nazca Lines Overflight

Soar over the mysterious Nazca lines on this enthralling, limited participation tour.

From the pier it's a 45-minute drive to the Pisco Airport where you will board your small aircraft that has been selected specifically for optimum viewing. Once you are ready to go, you will ascend into the skies for a truly unforgettable flight.

The full impact of the famous Nazca Lines can only be appreciated from the air. Believed to have been scratched on the surface of the dry Peruvian Coastal Plain between 500 BC and 500 AD, they remain one of the greatest enigmas in the field of archaelolgoy. These remarkable drawings that have been cut into the stony desert floor resemble geometric figures and various forms, such as a dog, monkey, spider, birds and a tree. Designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage site, the lines show an understanding of sophisticated mathematics and surveying techniques, leading many to question their origin. Theories range from pre-Inca irrigation systems to pleas from the ancient Peruvians to the gods above to help with their farming, and even extra-terrestrial intervention. No one knows for sure so you will have to come to your own conclusion!

Your flight lasts for approximately 100-minutes before touching back down at the Pisco airport. After a short comfort break at the airport, you'll re-board your coach and transfer back to the pier.

Please note: While this tour includes limited walking, you should be aware that the flight can encounter some turbulence and involves a lot of banking and tight turns that can subject sensitive passengers to air sickness. The tour is available to wheelchair guests that have a collapsible wheelchair, are able to make their own way on and off the coach and aircraft, and have an able-bodied companion to assist them. Those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Casual, weather-appropriate clothing and flat, comfortable shoes are recommeneded.

Participants will need to provide their age, weight and passport number to the Destination Services Desk 24-hours in advance of the tour. Window seats are not guaranteed and dependent upon the distribution of weight loads amongst the planes, guests may not be able to travel in the same aircraft as their traveling companion(s). All participants must carry their original passport.
