Land Programs & Hotels

  • Become immersed in the joys of Lisbon by visiting the capital city’s most well-known attractions and neighborhoods, watching a traditional Fado performance and exploring palaces in the nearby foothills.

    DAY 1

After flying into the Lisbon airport, you will be met outside of customs and transferred to the Olissippo Lapa Palace Hotel, an urban oasis tucked away on a hilltop in one of Lisbon’s most exclusive neighborhoods. Check in is 3pm and while every effort will be made to have rooms available earlier, this cannot be guaranteed.

You will spend the remainder of the day settling in and enjoying the amenities of this luxurious resort, which was once the private residence of the Count of Valencas. Lapa Palace Hotel is conveniently located within easy reach of Lisbon’s attractions, if you wish to explore the city or shop on your own before retiring for the evening.

Your river and garden-view room in the hotel’s garden wing will have a balcony that presents views of Lisbon’s downtown, the Tagus River and the hotel pool and garden.

    DAY 2

Enjoy breakfast before boarding a ‘tuk tuk’ (motorized rickshaw with three wheels) and embarking on a scenic drive towards the Belem Quarter, where you can admire the Monument of Discoveries, the Tower of Belém and Jeronimos Monastery. Continuing to downtown Lisbon, you will pass lovely Liberdade Avenue, the elegant shopping area of Chiado and the heart of the commercial area, Praça do Comércio and Alfama.

Note: each tuk tuk has a local driver and seats for two guests. This mode of transport enables guests to see some of the narrow streets in the city’s most typical neighborhoods.

Alfama takes its name from the Arabic Al-hamma, meaning fountains or baths. It contains many important historical attractions and traditional Fado restaurants along its narrow and winding streets. The medieval Castle of São Jorge overlooks the Alfama and offers one of the best views of the city.

One of the highlights of this comprehensive city tour is visiting the Lisbon Cathedral, also known as the Sé. Although it looks like a medieval fortress, the interior is glorious and includes the font where St. Anthony of Padua was supposedly baptized in the 12th century.

By midday, you will return to the hotel to spend the afternoon at your leisure, or you may remain in the city center and return on your own.

The entertainment for the evening will be in the Café Luso. Here, you will enjoy a traditional Portuguese dinner and watch a Fado show. Fado is Portuguese folk music that is melancholy by nature and usually played on guitars and mandolins. The lyrics tend to be poetic and involve themes such as love and sadness.

Following this authentic cultural experience, you will return to the hotel.

    DAY 3

After departing from the hotel, you will pass through some of Portugal’s most inspiring countryside on the way to Mafra. Here, at the revered Palace of Mafra, which was constructed of local limestone and marble in the 18th century, you will behold priceless art and period furnishings that were characteristic of the royal lifestyle. At one time, the palace also served as a Franciscan monastery.

After visiting the extraordinary palace, you will continue even deeper into the countryside to the Adega Mãe, home to approximately 40 hectares of vineyards with a production capacity of somewhere near 1,5 million liters per year. In its cellar, white, red and rosé wines are produced. The productive infrastructure is equipped with modern and sophisticated machinery, combining cutting-edge technology and traditional approach.

While touring this modern and architecturally innovative vineyard, you will get to know the white and red wine presses, the grandeur of the storage and fermentation tanks. Take a peek into the laboratory and visit the Time Room (“Sala do tempo”), where aromas combine with the scent of French Oak barrels; witness the repose of their Reserva, and finish things off with a tasting while you take in the views of the vineyard.

Following lunch at the winery, you will return to the hotel along a spectacularly scenic coastal route. The remainder of the day and dinner will be on your own to enjoy as you please.

Following lunch at the winery, you will return to the hotel along a spectacularly scenic coastal route. The remainder of the day and dinner will be on your own to enjoy as you please.

    DAY 4

After departing from the hotel, you will drive to Sintra, a beautiful town nestled in the forested foothills of the Sintra mountains. Your experience here begins with free time to wander about the atmospheric streets, enjoy the sweeping views and thoroughly relax.

Not far away, you will find Pena Palace, a landmark that was built in the 19th century to be a royal summer home. Inside and out, it looks like an eccentric mix of different castle styles and features. Now hailed as a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Portugal’s Seven Wonders, the flamboyant palace exemplifies 19th-century Romantic architecture, inside and out.

Following your tour of Pena Palace, you will return to Lisbon and embark the cruise ship.

  • Explore the landmarks of Oporto and discover the vast influence of the Douro River that flows through downtown and into the Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site for its historical viticulture.

NOTE: This program begins in Oporto, Portugal; therefore, arriving flights must be booked into the Francisco Sá de Carneiro Airport in Oporto. The program ends in Lisbon where guests will embark the ship.

    DAY 1

After flying into Francisco Sá de Carneiro Airport in Oporto, you will proceed through Customs and claim your luggage. You will then be met and transferred to your hotel.

Check-in is 3:00pm. Although every effort will be made to have rooms available earlier, this cannot be guaranteed. If you are arriving early, you may wish to book an extra night to guarantee immediate check-in.

The remainder of the day will be at your leisure with lunch and dinner on your own.

    DAY 2

Following breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will travel toward Oporto’s city center for an enlightening tour of its landmarks. For the ultimate view of the Douro River that runs through the city, you will ride a cable car above its banks. You will likely see plenty of rabelo boats, traditional vessels that were once used to transport port wine barrels from the Douro region to the city of Vila Nova de Gaia.

Later, after driving to the Serra do Pilar lookout, you will enjoy a sweeping view of Oporto. Upon reaching upper Gaia town, you will stop at a wine cellar to learn about the production of port wine step by step. It is a fascinating process made even more relevant with a sampling of several port wines.

Lunch follows at The Blini or a similar restaurant that features traditional cuisine with an emphasis on seafood. The Blini overlooks the Douro River and the views are extraordinary.

The tour will continue in Oporto’s historic center along the hills above the mouth of the Douro River. UNESCO has deemed the old quarter worthy of a World Heritage site designation for being an outstanding urban landscape with a 2,000-year-old history.

There, you will see one landmark after another, including the Stock Exchange Palace, Bolhão Market and Lello Bookshop, the São Bento Railway Station and the soaring bell tower that rises above the Clerigos Church. The Church of São Francisco is considered the finest example of Gothic architecture in Oporto.

In time, you will proceed inland and upriver into the Douro Valley wine region, a beautifully terraced landscape that produces some of Portugal’s finest port wine. Upon arriving at your hotel, you will check in for the evening.

The Six Sense Douro Valley Hotel is a 19th-century manor house perched high on a hill overlooking the valley that you will explore in earnest the next day.

Dinner will be on your own.

    DAY 3

After breakfast at the hotel, you will travel into the Douro Valley, an area that has been producing wine for at least 2,000 years. Fortified port wine has been a staple since the 18th century, which together with the long tradition of viticulture prompted UNESCO to declare the valley a World Heritage site.

Quinta da Pacheca is one of the valley’s oldest and most esteemed wineries. You will become immersed in its rich history while browsing the vineyards and winemaking operations. A lunch of traditional Portuguese cuisine and Douro Valley specialties thoughtfully paired with various wines will follow.

To enhance your knowledge of wine production, you will then participate in an entertaining activity in which you will help bottle, cork and label some of the wine from Quinta da Pacheca. Feel free to explore other areas of the winery afterwards during free time.

You will then return to your hotel to spend another relaxing evening. Dinner will be on your own.

    DAY 4

Following breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will travel to Lisbon with a brief stop in Coimbra.

There, you will view from the outside the Santa Clara Monastery and the University of Coimbra, which consists of several colleges that together UNESCO declared a World Heritage site for the centuries of interdependence between the city of Coimbra and the university.

For a literal taste of Coimbra, you will sample its signature egg-custard filled pastry: Pastel de Tentugal.

Continuing on to Lisbon, you will enjoy a short panoramic driving tour of the capital city, if time permits. Upon arriving at the pier, you will embark the cruise ship.

Land Program Details Step by Step

•The order of sites visited may vary to avoid congestion. Program times are approximate, given here for general reference purposes and subject to change.

  • Become immersed in the joys of Lisbon by visiting the capital city’s most well-known attractions and neighborhoods, watching a traditional Fado performance and exploring palaces in the nearby foothills.

    DAY 1

After flying into the Lisbon airport, you will be met outside of customs and transferred to the Intercontinental Hotel.

Check in is 3pm and while every effort will be made to have rooms available earlier, this cannot be guaranteed.

You can spend the remainder of the day settling in and enjoying the amenities of your resort or perhaps venture into the city center which is close by.

  • Become immersed in the life of Nelson Mandela by visiting attractions that lend great insight into his early days as an anti-apartheid revolutionary and how that experience led to his eventual election as President of South Africa.

This very special program is for a small group of no more than six guests.

Special Note: This program ends in Johannesburg; therefore, departure flights must be out of the Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport.

Guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

    Day 1

Disembark the ship in Cape Town, meet your guide and drive to the Vergelegen Wine Estate, which was founded in 1700. It is so representative of the Cape culture that the estate has been declared a Provincial Heritage site. You will be free to meander through the estate and themed gardens before enjoying a wine tasting and charcuterie plate.

Return to Cape Town and check in at your hotel - the Cape Grace, a luxurious hotel on the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. This cultural and historical area offers abundant opportunities for shopping and dining.

Dinner, however, will be served at the Cape Grace. To make the experience even more special and meaningful, someone that knew Nelson Mandela will be in attendance. That person may be Christo Brand, a former prison guard from Robben Island, the brutal maximum-security facility where Mandela was held for 18 years.

    Day 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will enjoy a short walk to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and board the ferry to Robben Island. Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, the island has a notorious past. For centuries, it was used to house lepers, the mentally challenged and political prisoners such as Nelson Mandela and anti-apartheid activist-poet Dennis Brutus. The prison there closed in 2011.

While touring the rocky island, you will learn about its infamous history and present population, which is primarily seabirds and African penguins.

After returning to the mainland on the ferry, you will walk to Nobel Square to view life-size sculptures of South Africa’s four Nobel Peace Prize laureates: Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, former state president of South Africa FW de Klerk, and Albert Luthuli, an anti-apartheid activist.

A 3-course lunch follows at a restaurant overlooking Nobel Square. Christo Brand may join you there.

After lunch, you will head for the Mandela Rhodes Place with the tour guide and Christo Brand, both of whom will elaborate on the building’s historical importance. Mining magnate and founder of the DeBeers diamond company, Cecil John Rhodes constructed the building, which now houses the Mandela Rhodes Foundation. This organization funds and empowers young Africans to serve their societies through education, entrepreneurship and leadership.

You will also visit the Cape Town City Hall and Grand Parade public square, where Mandela addressed the crowds a few hours after his release from prison in 1990. It was here that Mandela declared his commitment to reconciliation but warned that the armed struggle would continue as “a purely defensive action against the violence of apartheid.”

Return to your hotel with the remainder of the day at your leisure. Dinner is on your own. With so many options, you may want to discuss with your tour guide your food interests for them to suggest a wonderful restaurant for you.

    DAY 3

After breakfast and check-out, proceed to the Cape Town International Airport for a flight to Johannesburg. Upon arrival you will be met to begin your tour of this area.

Begin with a visit to Soweto, the township that became known as the epicenter of the anti-apartheid movement. You will see the house on Vilakazi Street where Mandela lived from 1946 until his arrest in 1962. Archbishop Desmond Tutu also lived on the street, which is now the only street in the world that has been home to two Nobel Peace Prize laureates.

You will also browse the Hector Pieterson Museum, a space dedicated to the commemoration of the high school students that led a peaceful march in 1976 that ended in a violent confrontation with the police. Hector Pieterson, a 12-year-old schoolboy, was shot and killed while protesting. Expect the museum visit to be an eye-opening and emotionally moving experience.

Soweto’s heritage site Kliptown Museum marks the spot where delegates to a people’s parliament met in 1955 to adopt the Freedom Charter. This founding document became the cornerstone of the Bill of Rights and South African Constitution. Kliptown was strategically chosen for the meeting place because it was a multiracial area between Soweto and Johannesburg.

Following lunch at a restaurant in Soweto, you will transfer to the Sanctuary Mandela Boutique Hotel where you will spend the evening.

Mandela lived in at the property in the late 1990s after being released from prison for his role in South Africa’s anti-apartheid movement. The estate later became the headquarters for the Nelson Mandela Foundation. It has been converted into a luxury hotel decorated with Mandela memorabilia.

The hotel restaurant, where you will dine, features a menu of Mandela’s favorite dishes prepared by his longtime chef. The meal and the experience of spending the evening in Mandela’s former residence will be highly memorable.

    Day 4

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. Check out time is 11:00am. You will be transferred to the Johannesburg Airport terminal based on your flight schedule. Should you have a late flight, luggage storage will be available at the hotel or alternatively you may wish to purchase an extra night to guarantee a room for the day.

This evening, you will enjoy a wine pairing 3-course dinner at the hotel.

    DAY 2

*For operational reasons beyond our control, the originally advertised Salt and Wine tasting at Waterford Wine Estate has been replaced with the below itinerary.

Following breakfast, you will meet your tour guide in the hotel lobby and then depart for a full-day tour of the Cape Winelands featuring Stellenbosch, the Town of Oaks and the second-oldest town in South Africa.

Stellenbosch is a university town famous for its carefully preserved architectural heritage, which includes examples of Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian styles, especially on Dorp Street, which is lined with houses, cottages and shops. Rows of oaks and open spaces transform the streets into soft, shady tunnels. The oaks have actually been proclaimed national monuments.

Starting in the Old Town center with your specialized “foodie” guide, your walking tour will focus on fresh, local, sustainably produced, and seasonal produce. In addition to its international wine reputation, Stellenbosch is also home to curated, public art exhibitions. During your leisurely walk you will savor the handiwork of both enthusiastic food artisans and celebrated artists in Stellenbosch. Throughout, your guide will entertain you with stories about the history and culture of the area.

Your tour includes sampling home-grown teas paired with typical Cape sweet treats, traditional beef snacks from a local butchery, local produced wines with appetizing delights and the walk will conclude at one of the oldest hotels in Stellenbosch for a delicious heritage platter.

After lunch, re-board your coach and head to Blaauwklippen Wine Estate. Founded in 1682, Blaauwklippen is one of the oldest wine farms in Stellenbosch. Upon arrival you will be welcomed and will partake in a delectable wine and chocolate pairing followed by the unique opportunity to create a wine blend.

Start off by tasting three different wines lead by an experienced wine ambassador who will guide the group through the process showing how and why certain varieties harmonize better than others. You will then be challenged to create your own blend as a team.

After some time to explore the estate on your own it will be time to return to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure with dinner on your own. If you wish, the hotel’s concierge can assist you in making arrangements for an unforgettable dinner off site or you may choose to dine in-house.

    DAY 3

Following a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, you will meet your tour guide in the hotel lobby and depart for a full-day tour to the Cape Winelands featuring Franschhoek.

The lush Franschhoek Valley and the Huguenot village of Franschhoek (“French Corner”) was originally known as Olifants Hoek (“Elephant’s Corner”) after elephants took to calving in the sheltered valley with its plentiful supply of food and water.

En-route, you will stop at Boschendal Wine Estate for a guided walking tour offering rare personal insight into the history of the farm, regenerative farming practices and sustainable gardening while experiencing and enjoying the beauty of the farm and its gardens. You will also be harvesting seasonal herbs from the herb garden. Comfortable shoes and hats are recommended as this is a 1.5-hour walking tour.

Following your farm tour, you will enjoy a wine tasting and then lunch at The Werf Restaurant.

You will then travel to the town of Franschhoek, where you have the option to visit to the Huguenot Monument, situated at the foot of the Franschhoek Pass, which commemorates the arrival of the Huguenots in South Africa. Alternatively, you may explore this quaint town on your own.

The tour ends with a nougat and sparkling wine tasting at Haute Cabriere or a similar venue.

Back at your hotel you will have some time to freshen up before a final wine pairing three-course group dinner.

    DAY 4

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel. The official check-out time from the hotel is 11:00am. • This nonstop adventure presents the unrivalled experience of touring thundering Victoria Falls and venturing into Botswana’s first national park for a game drive to view African’s most iconic wildlife.

PLEASE NOTE – This POST-Cruise Program ends in Johannesburg and therefore guests need to fly out of Johannesburg, South Africa. The following program details are for reference purposes only and subject to change based on flights that can be confirmed at or around 60 days prior to sailing.

Special Note: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

    DAY 1

Disembark in Cape Town, meet your guide and transfer to your city-based hotel. En-route you will have an orientation tour. Check in is at 2:00pm and although every effort will be made to have rooms available before this time, this cannot be guaranteed. Luggage storage will be available should you wish to head into the city to explore on your own.

Your hotel is located in the bustling Victoria and Alfred Waterfront where you will find a wide array of shopping and dining options. Lunch and dinner are on your own today.

    DAY 2

After breakfast and check out, transfer to the Cape Town airport for a flight to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

As guests may only bring one piece of checked luggage per person, excess luggage (1 piece per person) will be shipped via courier to Johannesburg where you will be re-united with it on Day 5. Make sure to pack accordingly and bring any medications and cruise documents with you.

Upon arriving in Victoria Falls, proceed through Customs and Immigration. You will then be met and transferred to the Victoria Falls Hotel. Note: Visas are required for Zimbabwe and can be purchased at the airport upon arrival.

After check-in, transfer to the Zambezi River and embark on a sunset cruise (shared departure). Depending on the size of the group the boat may either be a covered single level sightseeing boat or a larger boat with multiple levels. Enjoy a beverage from this vantage point whilst watching the sunset and possibly sighting hippos, crocodiles, various birdlife and maybe even an elephant or two along the banks of the river.

Your boat cruise is followed up with dinner back at the hotel.

    DAY 3

After breakfast and check out, transfer to the Victoria Falls Rainforest where you will have a guided walk.

Located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls is the world’s largest curtain of falling water, based on the falls’ one-mile width and height of 360 feet. It’s an amazing spectacle to watch as the Zambezi River roars over the edge of a basalt gorge, forming what locals call Mosi-Oa-Tunya or “the smoke that thunders”. In November 1885, after seeing the falls for the first time, Scottish explorer and Doctor David Livingstone re-named them after Queen Victoria.

A path along the edge of the rainforest provides visitors with an unparalleled series of views of the falls but be prepared to get wet from the tremendous spray!

NOTE: the cobblestone walkways within the rainforest can be slippery if wet and some spots are at a gradient. Proper walking shoes that have a good grip should be worn, and guests should wear appropriate clothing to get wet. Due to the amount of walking and terrain, this program is not suited for guests who have walking difficulty or who utilize a wheelchair or scooter. Walking distance will be 2-4km (1.24 – 2.48 miles).

Continue by road across the Zimbabwe – Botswana border to Chobe Chilwero. Your lodge is located on the Chobe River, not far from the entrance to Chobe National Park.

Check in, enjoy lunch at the lodge and then some free time to get acquainted with your surroundings.

A bit later in the day, gather in the main lodge for tea and snacks followed by a game drive in Chobe National Park. Safaris are conducted in 4x4 open side vehicles and led by qualified professional guides who will bring you close to hippos, buffalos, puku and other animals that gather on the banks of the Chobe River. Naturally, elephants, lion and leopard are also found in the area.

Return to your lodge thereafter for dinner and overnight.

    DAY 4

After an early-morning wake-up call and coffee and tea in the lobby, you will embark on a morning game drive in 4x4 open-air safari vehicles.

Along with elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo, Chobe is also home to two antelope that aren’t encountered anywhere else in Botswana, the puku and the Chobe bushbuck. Declared a national park in 1967, Chobe was the first one established in Botswana and now covers more than 4,500 square miles of dry savannah, floodplains, and teak woodlands that are ideal animal habitats.

Returning from your morning safari, a full breakfast will be served after which you will have free time to do as you wish at the lodge.

Following lunch, you will embark on a cruise down the Chobe River – this is the ideal time to keep a look out for animals coming to the river for water.

Later dinner will be served at the lodge.

    DAY 5

After enjoying one last optional game drive and breakfast, check-out from the lodge and transfer to the Kasane Airport for a flight to Johannesburg.

Upon arrival at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport, you will be met and assisted through passport control and baggage claim. You will then be escorted your hotel where you will spend the remainder of the day at leisure. Dinner is on your own. Your hotel is located within walking distance of the terminal.

You will be reunited with any luggage that was shipped from Cape Town.

NOTE: Guests on Splendor's December 6, 2024 sailing will enjoy a Christmas dinner at the hotel with the group on this evening.

    DAY 6

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. Check out time is 11:00am. You will be assisted on the walk to the Johannesburg Airport terminal based on your flight schedule. Should you have a late flight, luggage storage will be available at the hotel or alternatively you may wish to purchase an extra night to guarantee a room for the day.

    PLEASE NOTE

*This is a malaria risk area. Make sure that the necessary medication has been taken. Guests should seek their physicians’ advice regarding malaria precautions and other recommended immunizations. You must begin taking malaria precautions prior to your departure date.

*The contents and order of the activities in this program are subject to change by the lodge management without prior notice, due to the prevailing weather conditions and movement of dangerous wildlife in the Chobe National Park.

*The roads in the game reserve are gravel. There are also inclines, and certain parts of the game drive can be bumpy. This program is not recommended for guests with back problems.

*Bring warm clothing, as the evenings and early mornings are chilly.

*This program is not fully guided. Local representatives will assist you with your transfers and you will have a guide at Victoria Falls, however, the game drive and Chobe River cruise at the lodge and is run solely and at the discretion by the lodge/hotel staff.

*The water levels at Victoria Falls are season dependent. ‘Low Water’ runs between August and January and is at its lowest between November and early December. This is the time when there is very little spray and visitors are able to fully appreciate the geological formation of Victoria Falls and the full length and breadth of them.

    Expected Weather:

South Africa’s seasons are the reverse of those in the northern hemisphere. Midwinter is in June and midsummer at hottest temperatures in December and January. The climate varies from region to region but is generally mild throughout the year. The average daily temperature is 30°C and nighttime temperatures can drop to approximately 14°C.

The arrival of the rains trigger a dispersal of game from the Chobe River area but the warm, rainy December to March summer months are the best time to visit Chobe for bird watching, the impala birthing season (great for predators!) and to see the Savute zebra migration.

In Zimbabwe and Botswana, during summer (October – April), days are hot and generally sunny in the morning with possible afternoon thunderstorms. Daytime temperatures can rise to 30ºC (86 ºF) and night temperatures drop to around 14ºC (57.2 ºF) - 16ºC (60.8 ºF). The temperatures given are those for the main centers but it is considerably warmer all year round in the low-lying areas such as Kariba, Victoria Falls, and the Zambezi Valley. The rainy season runs from November to March, although the Eastern Highlands are damp for most of the year.

    What to Bring:

Light cotton tops and cotton trousers and shorts in summer. Safari trousers and warm fleece tops for evenings and cooler days. Swimwear, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, camera, film and chargers, personal toiletries and anti-malaria prophylaxis.

    Currency:

The monetary unit of South Africa is the Rand. All major credit cards are accepted at most establishments, although Visa and Mastercard are the most widely accepted cards.

In Zimbabwe, the unit of currency is the US Dollar

Credit card payments in Zimbabwe are subject to change on a daily basis. Currently, as only Visa cards are widely accepted here so we recommend that you travel with a small amount of US Dollars or SA Rand in cash, in small denominations, to pay for incidental expenses.

    Electricity:

South Africa’s electrical system is 220/230 volts A/C 50 cycles. Most hotels have hair dryers and plug adaptors in the bedrooms however we recommend bringing your own travel adaptor if you are bringing electric devices. Be aware that overnight charging may not be possible where generator use restricts the availability of electricity.

Outlets in Zimbabwe require a three-pronged adapter plug with 3 round prongs

    Luggage:

    CHECKED LUGGAGE

For your economy class internal flights:

*Passengers are permitted to check-in one piece of luggage at a maximum of 23 kg (50 lbs.) and maximum dimension of 158 cm (62 inches) - subject to change by airline

*Excess luggage fees will be paid directly to the airline at the check in counter by guests however should you wish, a maximum of 1 additional piece of luggage per person (23kg/ 50 lbs) can be shipped to Johannesburg where you will be reunited with it on Day 5.

    2. The certificate should have attached a picture of the equipment with its description/specifications especially with regards to the type of batteries used (lithium/dry or any other type)

  • Observe iconic African wildlife in Aquila Game Reserve, enjoy breathtaking views of Cape Town from atop Table Mountain and spend another day exploring the city on your own – all immensely fulfilling experiences.

    DAY 1

Disembark in Cape Town and meet your tour guide for a tour and transfer to your hotel. En-route, visit Table Mountain, the city’s most celebrated landmark!

Travel up Kloof Nek, the saddle between Table Mountain and Lions Head, to the lower cableway station. Ascend from the Valley Station (363 m) to the Mountain Station (1 060 m) in a Swiss engineered Rotair cable car. The journey from the base to the summit takes just under 4 minutes and one can enjoy spectacular views, as the floor of the car rotates 360 degrees during the ascent and descent.

Table Mountain gets her name from the flat-topped central massif of the mountain, which, viewed from the city, is surrounded by Devil’s Peak on the left, Lion’s Head on the right and Signal Hill in the foreground. They form a sort of amphitheater that encloses the city center and some of the older suburbs. Other earlier suburbs are on either side of the chain of mountains, which run like a spine through the Cape Peninsula, from Table Mountain to Cape Point – the cape from which Cape Town gets its name.

From the summit, the natural protected area stretching from Signal Hill to Cape Point has been managed under the custodianship of the National Parks Board. This area has one of the highest concentrations of endemic plant and animal species in any area of its size, containing a staggering 2 285 plant species – more than the entire U.K.

Upon descent, re-board your vehicle and transfer to your hotel. Check-in on arrival (official check-in time is 2:00pm). Although every effort will be made to have rooms available before this time this cannot be guaranteed.

Spend the afternoon at leisure. Consider a stroll to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront where shops, restaurants and entertainment are plenty. Lunch and dinner are on your own.

Note: the cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain is weather dependent. If not possible due to high winds a stop will be made at a viewing area near the cable car base for photos.

    DAY 2

Following an early breakfast at your hotel, depart on a 2.5-hour road transfer to Aquila Game Reserve or similar. Enjoy a welcome drink on arrival, followed by a 4 x 4 game drive, with an experienced nature guide. Thereafter, sit down to a delicious buffet lunch including two local beverages. After some free time to browse through the well-stocked curio shop, depart for a return transfer to Cape Town.

The remainder of the day will be at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

    DAY 3

Spend today at leisure, exploring the beautiful ‘Mother City’ at your own pace. Consider a ferry trip to Robben Island (individually made pre-bookings are essential via the Robben Island Ferry website), an open Red Top bus trip to numerous destinations, a hike up Lion’s Head, Wine tasting in the Winelands, or simply visiting numerous attractive beaches such as Camps Bay, Blouberg Beach or similar.

Make sure you are hungry for dinner as this evening you will join the group again for an African themed Farewell Dinner at GOLD Restaurant which includes an immersive 14-dish “taste-safari” and optional inter-active drumming. The tasting menu is designed to be enjoyed in a shared style and throughout the meal you will be learn about the country of origin, cooking techniques and spicing of each dish. (All meat, poultry and fish dishes come with vegan or vegetarian options). No doubt you will be swept up in the excitement as African stories are told through live entertainment while you dine including singing, puppetry and dancing to the beat of the djembe drums.

Following this lively dinner experience, you will be returned to your hotel.

    DAY 4

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel. The official check-out time from the hotel is at 11:00am. If a late check-out is required due to a late outbound flight, one cannot be guaranteed unless your room is booked for another night. SHAMWARI GAME RESERVE: Bayethe

“By-ye-ti,” meaning “I salute you,” is the warm African greeting carried on the fresh valley wind at this tented paradise. Allow nature to blanket you in the seductive tented accommodation of Bayethe Lodge. The refined tents are shrouded by rich vegetation, providing privacy and a feeling of seclusion with views of the African bush. The tents have indoor baths and either an indoor or outdoor shower. All suites have their own plunge pool and private minibar.

Note: there are long solid walkways (1 -5 minute walk depending on the tent location) with up to 5 or 6 steps here and there to access each luxury tent.

Special Note: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

    Please note:

-The contents and order of activities in this program are subject to change by the lodge management without prior notice, due to the prevailing weather conditions and movement of dangerous wildlife on the reserve.

-Whilst this is a safari area, the animals are wild and so sightings cannot be guaranteed.

-During early morning game drives in open vehicles it can be a little cool. We recommend that guests take along a windbreaker.

-During the day, it can get extremely hot. The game drive vehicles are not covered – and guests are therefore exposed to the elements. Guests are therefore advised not to forget their sunhats, sun block, sunglasses, as well as their cameras and binoculars.

-The roads in the game reserve are gravel. There are also inclines and certain parts of the game-drive can be bumpy. Not recommended for guests with back & neck problems or pregnant ladies.

-This program is suitable for guests with walking disabilities, providing that a travel companion or spouse accompanies them. Please also note that confirmation would be strictly subject to availability of handicapped rooms at the time of booking.

-No children under 6 years of age are allowed on safari.

-This program is not fully guided. Local representatives will assist you with your transfers however, the program at the lodge and hotel is run solely and at the discretion by the lodge/hotel staff.
