SETTING
THE SCENE
Telling stories is as old of an art as there is. Some
even argue that all art tells a story. And photography
— be it still or moving — is a most notable example.
Ever since the words of the first screenplays leapt
from their pages and came to life as light collided
with the film’s silver halide crystals, exposing the
truths they held, mankind has been moved by the
narratives of the once silver screen. Today, while
the world of cinematic storytelling has been and
continues to be dramatically altered by incredible
technological advances in how we capture, edit and
share our stories, certain things remain the same.
Be it inspiration, the main set, b-roll or a background
plate to be composited together with stunning visual
effects, finding the perfect location to set the scene
for a story is fundamental. And in the lands of lore
that follow, while there are way too many incredible
films and shows to mention here, join me on a little
jaunt across a list of some stunning and favorite
locations from scenes of the past.
