  • Behold some of the most spectacular scenery in the Swiss Alps, including famed peaks such as Eiger, verdant mountain-framed valleys, fairytale-like villages and Europe’s largest subterranean waterfalls.

Note: This program starts in Barcelona, Spain where guests disembark the ship and ends in Zurich, Switzerland. Flights home need to be booked from the Zurich International Airport (ZRH). An economy class internal flight from Barcelona to Zurich on Day 1 is included in this program and will be booked by RSSC’s air department.

Special Note: Due to the nature of this program, it is not recommended for guests with limited mobility or who use a wheelchair, walker, cane or scooter. Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

    DAY 1

Disembark the ship in Barcelona and transfer to the International Airport for your flight to Zurich.

Upon arrival at the Zurich International Airport, you will be met outside the arrivals area by and English-speaking guide. You will then be transferred to your hotel in Interlaken where the remainder of the day is at your leisure and meals are on your own.

Note: Drive time from the Zurich airport to Interlaken is approximately 2.5 hours. A restroom stop will be made along the way. Guests are not accompanied on the flight

Check in time at the hotel is at 3:00pm. Although every effort will be made to have rooms available sooner, this cannot be guaranteed.

If any flight delays are encountered while enroute, guests should proceed to the airline counter for updates. Downloading the free airline app will also keep guests current of any changes and in the event of a cancellation or delay, the airline will notify them, via the app, of their new schedule.

Should guests have any questions pertaining to the internal air segment on this program, please call RSSC at 1.844.519.9613 (weekdays: 8:30 am - 8:00 pm EST, Saturday:9:30 am - 5:30 pm EST, Sunday: closed). Dial 7 if after regular business hours

    SPECIAL NOTES:

There may be multiple flights used by RSSC to fly guests to Zurich on the first day

Please make sure we are aware if you are travelling with other guests

Guests are not accompanied on the internal flight

Guests should make sure to check-in for the internal flight within 24 hours before flight time

    DAY 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will meet the guide in the lobby and transfer to the funicular railway that will take you up Harder Kulm, the mountain overlooking the town of Interlaken. Upon reaching the top, you will enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Swiss Alps, which include the peaks of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

Back in Interlaken, you will settle in over a 3-course lunch before continuing on to Lauterbrunnen. This enchanting village sits in a gorgeous alpine valley, wedged between sheer rock cliffs and soaring mountain peaks. Lauterbrunnen translates to “many fountains,” an appropriate name for a village near 72 waterfalls.

You will visit Trümmelback Falls, Europe’s largest subterranean waterfalls. It carries such a huge volume of boulders and scree in its thundering glacial meltwater that you can feel the surrounding mountain shudder.

After visiting, you will return to the hotel and spend the evening at your leisure with dinner on your own.

Note: The Falls are not wheelchair accessible.

    DAY 3

After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will transfer to nearby Grindelwald village (approximately a one- hour drive) with your English-speaking guide. Once you check into the hotel, you will be free for the remainder of the day.

Grindelwald is renowned for its spectacular scenery and outdoor activities, so there will be plenty of options for adventure. Hiking is highly suggested, especially along First Cliff Walk and the trail that follows the base of Eiger mountain.

Afterwards, you can relax at the hotel and enjoy a leisurely dinner on your own.

    DAY 4

After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will be transferred to the Zurich International Airport (ZRH) in accordance with your flight home. For guests with late flights, luggage storage will be available at the hotel until your scheduled transfer time which will be relayed during the program.

Note: Transfer time to the Zurich Airport from Grindelwald is approximately 3 hours depending on traffic and road conditions. Please keep this in mind when booking your flight home.

  • Explore prominent landmarks and extraordinary cities that define Spain, many of them World Heritage sites, an experience that will leave you with a deeper historical and cultural perspective of the country.

NOTE: this program ends in Madrid, Spain therefore departing flights need to be booked out of the Madrid International Airport (MAD). This tour is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties or for those who use a wheelchair, walker or scooter due to the amount of walking, many steps and cobbled surfaces. There are long segments of driving on this program.

Hotel Amendment: Please be advised that the group will now stay at the NH Collection Gran Hotel Zaragoza instead of Hotel Alfonso Zaragoza on Day 1. The NH Collection Gran Hotel Zaragoza is located in the heart of the city close to museums, shops and restaurants.

    DAY 1

After disembarking the cruise ship in Barcelona, you will enjoy a leisurely and immensely scenic drive to the Poblet Monastery. A 12th-century church stands at the center of this sacred World Heritage site, which features a fortified royal residence. While touring, you will learn about the monks’ lifestyle in the Middle Ages and the mountainous route that connects this Cisterian monastery to two others.

Continuing on to the nearby medieval village of Montblanc, you can expect to see its Gothic churches, the royal palace and the city’s 14th-century stone walls, more than half of which still exist. Free time follows, during which you can explore further. The centrally located Plaza Mayor is a great starting point for shopping and people-watching.

Afterwards, you will settle in for a relaxing drive to Zaragoza, the capital of the province that lies on the Ebro River. Upon arriving, you will check into your hotel where the remainder of the day will be at your leisure with dinner on your own.

Note: At the Monastery of Poblet you will have approximately 1.5 km / .9 miles of walking and about 10 steps to negotiate. In Montblanc there will be approximately 1 km./.06 miles of walking over cobblestone surfaces

    DAY 2

After breakfast at the hotel, you will spend the next two hours or so exploring Zaragoza, especially the Old Town. Its star attraction is the multi-domed Basilica of Pilar, an important pilgrimage site. According to local legend, the Virgin Mary gave Saint James a pillar made of jasper here and instructed him to build a church on the site. This last version of El Pilar, as it’s known locally, was constructed beginning in the late 17th century.

You will next visit the ancient town of Medinaceli, which in Arabic and means “City on the Hill.” The Romans founded the city and structures from that time still remain, the most famous being a stone arch built in the 2nd century. Other highlights include a 17th-century palace and a Gothic church built even earlier.

Following lunch, you will settle in for a relaxing drive to Madrid, where you will check into the Eurostar Madrid Tower or similar hotel. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure with dinner on your own.

Note: In Zaragoza there will be approximately 1 km/ .6 miles of walking over flat, paved surfaces. In Medinaceli, 1.5km / .9 miles over cobbled and paved surfaces with slight inclines.

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will depart for Toledo, a city so architecturally rich that Spain has declared it a national monument. UNESCO agreed and designated the historic center a World Heritage site, in part because three religions existed harmoniously here—Christianity, Islam and Judaism.

As you walk through this extraordinary city on the Tagus River, you will get a genuine feel for what life was like here in the Middle Ages. The historic city center is that atmospheric. The Toledo Cathedral is particularly impressive, as it is considered one of Europe’s greatest Gothic buildings. Built over nearly three centuries, starting in 1226, the cathedral contains a spectacular high altar and two painting by El Greco, the famed painter that lived in Toledo.

Lunch follows, after which you will proceed to Madrid. As an introduction to Spain’s vibrant capital, you will drive past key landmarks before starting an enlightening walking tour in Plaza Mayor. This grand arcaded square in the heart of the city offers wonderful options for shopping and dining nearby, as you may discover during free time.

By late afternoon, you will return to the hotel, where you will spend the evening with dinner on your own.

Note: In Toledo there will be approximately 2.5 km / 1.5 miles of walking over paved and cobblestone surfaces with some ascending inclines. In Madrid you will have approximately 1.5km / .9 miles of walking over flat, paved surfaces.

    DAY 4

After breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to Segovia, a World Heritage site perhaps best known for its aqueduct that was probably constructed during the reign of Roman emperor Trajan. Until about 100 years ago, the aqueduct still carried water from the Frio River into Segovia 10 miles away.

The Alcazar is another landmark that is impossible to miss. Construction began in the 12th century and its fabulous fairy-tale style supposedly inspired the design of the Walt Disney castle in part. You will also spend time in Segovia’s walled upper town, whose cathedral is the last Gothic one built in Spain. It stands where Isabella I was proclaimed the Queen of Castile in 1474.

Following lunch in Segovia, you will drive to the 16th-century Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial on the outskirts of Madrid. It too is a World Heritage site and celebrated for its austere appearance, which influenced Spanish architecture for the next half century or so. As you wander through the interior, the guide will describe the building’s illustrious history, including how King Philip II conceived El Escorial as a funerary monument for his father.

After visiting, you will return to the hotel in Madrid, where you will spend the evening with dinner on your own.

Note: In Segovia you will have approximately 1km / .6 miles of walking over cobblestones and paved surfaces, with some ascending inclines and in Escorial there will be approximately 2.5 km / 1.5 miles of walking over flat, paved surfaces.

    DAY 5

Following breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will transfer to the Madrid International Airport based on the departure of your flight. Luggage can be stored at the hotel for guests with flights that depart late in the day.

  • Explore Barcelona and Girona in depth by visiting their architectural landmarks, often on guided walking tours and on your own with a liberating Hop On Hop Off bus voucher in the capital of Catalonia.

    Day 1:

After disembarking the ship in Barcelona, you will begin a guided tour of the city. You will pass the Columbus monument and the waterfront on the way to Sagrada Familia, the extraordinary still-unfinished church that famed architect Antoni Gaudí worked on until his death in 1926. The guide will explain the history of the church and its lengthy ongoing construction during your outside visit.

Continuing, you will begin a walking tour of the Gothic Quarter, passing landmarks such as the La Seu Cathedral and city hall. A more sweeping view of Barcelona awaits you upon reaching Mount Juic hill, where you may pause for photos. You will then visit Spanish Village, an open-air museum with replicas of characteristic houses from throughout Spain. As you meander the grounds, you may observe artists such as glassblowers demonstrating their talents.

A tapas-style lunch follows, after which you will check into your hotel to spend the first of three nights. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure. The hotel is located in the Eixample district of Barcelona just a 10-minute walk to Las Ramblas. Passeig de Gràcia, the city’s nicest shopping street, is easily reached on foot. Reflections of modernist mansions shimmer in the river that divides the historic center from the gleaming commercial center.

During the comprehensive walking tour of the city center, you will enjoy an inside visit of the 12th-century Arab baths and see the remains of Girona’s historical Jewish community. During free time that follows, you might savor lunch on your own before transferring back to Barcelona to spend the evening at the hotel.

    Day 3:

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will receive a complimentary Hop On Hop Off bus voucher that will allow you to explore the attractions that interest you the most. Simply hop on the buses and hop off whenever you wish. The buses travel in a continuous loop between attractions that include the Picasso Museum, the Gaudí-designed houses Casa Battló and Casa Mila, and various shopping areas.

The entire day will be yours to spend as you please, with all meals on your own before retiring to the hotel for the evening.

  • Enjoy the definitive exploration of Ireland complete with an overnight stay at a private castle, enlightening tours of a whiskey distillery and a thoroughbred horse-breeding farm, and a stop in Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

This is a small-group program limited to 10 participants.

    DAY 1

Disembark the ship in Killybegs, where you will meet your guide and set off on a journey through the heartland of Ireland. Throughout the day you will be surrounded by magnificent views, charming towns and beautiful scenery.

Travel to the magnificent Crom Castle, located in the beautiful Fermanagh Lakelands district. Embark on this once-in-a-lifetime unique opportunity for a “Downton Abbey”-style experience where you will be hosted by Irish aristocracy – the Earl and Countess of Erne, the castle’s seventh-generation private owners and residents.

Arriving at Crom Castle, seat of the Earls of Erne for over 350 years, you will be greeted by Lord and Lady Erne and shown to your rooms. For the duration of your stay, you will have the opportunity to tour the castle and explore the estate. Afternoon tea will be served and there will be an evening champagne reception and dinner in the dining room.

Lord Erne will personally guide guests around the castle explaining the history of the castle, estate and his family. Experience the warmth and graciousness of Irish hospitality during your stay as guests of the Earl and Countess.

    DAY 2

After a leisurely breakfast, depart and travel south into Ireland’s “hidden heartlands” and discover the historic Kilbeggan Distillery. As the oldest licensed distillery of its kind in Ireland, the Kilbeggan Distilling Company has seen its share of trials and triumphs. Founded in 1757, the distillery spent the next 200 years making a whiskey beloved the world over. So, when tough times ground its gears to a halt, the town came together to save the whiskey that built the town. Today, every bottle produced stands as proof that the spirit of Kilbeggan never wavered.

Words and pictures can attempt to do it justice, but there is no substitute for visiting Kilbeggan and experiencing the relationship between the distillery and the town firsthand. During your visit, you will tour the distillery and see how it has married the whiskey-making traditions of yesteryear with the innovative spirit of today.

Lunch will be enjoyed in a local venue before travelling on to Clonmacnoise, one of the most famous and ancient monastic sites in Ireland. Located along the River Shannon near the village of Shannonbridge, Clonmacnoise was founded by Saint Ciaran in the mid-sixth century and became a great center of religion and learning, visited by scholars from all over the world.

After visiting, you will travel on to your hotel, Glasson Lakehouse, which is located along the serene shores of Lough Ree. Check in and enjoy dinner at the hotel.

    DAY 3

This morning, after breakfast and check out, travel into heart of Ireland’s thoroughbred county, County Kildare. Here, the Irish National Stud & Gardens is one of Ireland’s true treasures and your first stop for today.

Beginning in the early 1900s, it has produced some of the finest racehorses in Europe and it is still one of the top breeding farms. The Irish National Stud & Gardens is one of the only thoroughbred breeding farms open to the public and is the home of equine royalty. Its unique history and beauty are admired by visitors from around the globe. Visitors can view immaculately bred stallions and admire protective mares alongside their frolicking foals.

There is also an opportunity to meet retired equine racing stars like Faugheen, Hurricane Fly and Beef or Salmon on the stud’s Living Legend's team. The Irish National Stud and Gardens is also home to two remarkable gardens, the Japanese Gardens and St Fiachra’s Garden.

At the Japanese gardens, enter an oasis of calm as you walk along the Life of Man path, which traces the passage of a soul from birth to death and beyond. By comparison, St Fiachra's Garden is an inherently Irish garden that symbolizes the power of the Irish landscape. Predominantly planted with native specimens, St Fiachra’s Garden is home to an array of Irish wildlife.

You will next travel into Dublin, passing the Georgian squares of Merrion and Fitzwilliam, National Gallery of Ireland, Government Buildings and St. Stephen’s Green. You will also see Dublin Castle, City Hall and Christchurch Cathedral en route to visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Founded in 1190, St. Patrick’s is perhaps best known for its association with Jonathan Swift, who was Dean there from 1713 to 1745. The pulpit from which he preached is still there.

Continue your drive passing the renowned Guinness Brewery and on the north side of Dublin’s River Liffey the Four Courts, Ireland’s courts of justice. This side of Dublin boasts the wide boulevard O’Connell Street, where you will see the General Post Office, scene of the 1916 rising and birthplace of the Irish nation. The Customs House is another landmark nearby. It was designed by James Gandon and completed in 1791.

Crossing the River Liffey to Dublin’s south side, you will soon pass The Old Parliament House, now the Bank of Ireland and Trinity College. Founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth 1, it is Ireland’s oldest college.

Following your exploration of Dublin, re-join your ship at Dun Laoghaire harbour.
