Shwedagon by Night Shore Excursion in Yangon, Burma

This evening exploration commences with a drive around lush Yangon, known as the "Garden City of the East." Architectural highlights along the way include the traditional tiered roof City Hall, Karaweik Royal Barge, the ancient Thanlyin area and ornate Sule Pagoda. Still, few sights compare with the mesmerizing Shwedagon Pagoda.

Its glistening dome is covered with thousands of priceless gold plates, rubies, sapphires and other precious gems, and topped with a single 76-carat diamond. Shwedagon and the glorious stupas, shrines and sculptures that surround it sprawl over 12 acres and include architectural gems such as a replica of the Mahabodhi Temple, where Buddha attained enlightenment, and the Hall of Wizards, devoted to practitioners of the occult arts. While the history of Shwedagon is shrouded in mystery, the pagoda is without a doubt the most revered pagoda in the region. You can't help but be awed by its magnificence.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 90-minutes of moderate walking/standing and numerous steps to negotiate at Shwedagon. The tour is available to guests who have a collapsible wheelchair, are able to get on and off the coach and have a companion to assist them. Conservative attire is required and shoulders and knees must be covered. Flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. When entering places of worship, visitors must remove their shoes and socks.

The outside of the Pagoda's main stupa will undergo restoration during the months of October 2018 - March 2019 and will be covered in scaffolds; outside views will be obstructed.
